I could'nt see this posted anywhere but I thought the story may be of interest http://www.bbc.co.uk/hampshire/content/articles/2008/06/27/barefoot_walking_feature.shtml
I kinda find it sad that being barefoot creates so much media attention....haven't the bbc got anything better to report on! We aren't circus freaks....may be it tells us more about societies unwillingness to accept anything slightly "different"....down here in NZ a story like that wouldn't even get a mention!
I don't think it's so much a freak show as a 'person of interest' story. I have a friend in Cornwall who collects seaweed and sells it to restaurants. He had a similar news item done on him with an appearance on TV. Journalists just like to report on people doing something outside the usual flow. The UK is a country where most people are interested in imitating the rich an famous, people here are not at all hostile or shocked by barefeet; but it fits into the realm of 'different'.
