My cat poops and gets a little bit on his bum. He licks but it is getting to the point where it gets on the carpet and such.... gross but true.

Is his stool very soft/smeary? may need a change of food.
My cat sometimes gets poop stuck to his butt, but thats because he gets hairballs all the time, so when that happens, his stool is so dry it actually gets stuck in his rectum (poor thing) ... then I have to "help him" with that, and then break out the hairball remedy stuff and start bringing in some greens for him to munch on. But my cat is also about 10 yrs old, a senior. How old is your kitty?

Get some baby wipes and wipe its butt. Also like free2fly you should try to get a better quality catfood, and perhaps provide some catgrass for it nibble on.

i'd switch him to a good brand like Royal Canin.....the first ingredient is meat.....no byproducts.

my dog has problems like that. she will poo but then for whatever reason it doesnt always come all the way out and ends up hanging from her bum and then to get it off she wipes her butt across the carpet....its gross. i use paper towel to get the stuff off and then wipe her with baby wipes or a wet paper towel.

is your cat long haired? if so you can trim the hair around his bum and maybe that will help.....it wont get in the way so much

    On the topic of catfoods...

Is Chicken Soup catfood any good? It's what I feed my cat.

Never heard of it. but with any cat food you want the first ingredient to be meat and go from there. NO byproducts! Even Science Diet contains byproducts but there's many brands that do not for the same price. You can order online or go to any petsmart and they have a good selection.

Science Diet is really bad food. I wouldn't trust Chicken Soup cat food just because it's made by the same company that had to recall dog food. The food that caused liver failure and killed a bunch of dogs. 3 diamond I think it was.
Purina One is the best of the Purina's but still not a very good food.
Max Cat, Nutro, Solid Gold, Wysong (really good, but expensive), foods like that are good. And yes get something with mainly meat, cats are carnivours and mainly eat meat. Pretty much anything you get at the grocery store or Walmart is crap, go to a specialty pet store. My cats were having problems with hairballs, tehy were eating Max Cat. So I switched them to a higher fat food Evo Enova (supposed to mimick a wild cat's diet), but it gave them the runs (too high in fat). Now they're eating Solid Gold and they're doing good on it. A 4lb bag is $8.99. I also feed my cats a little cooked meat twice a day.
A pet store will probably be happy to give you some samples of foods to try.

Rosco is short hair. He just has the problem sometimes. I can't really afford to change his diet, he would get sick. He just needs to have his bum checked more regularly I guess. No biggie. Thanks for your help.
