My parents are bringing me down!@ Theyve started this whole extravagant thing where they are trying to limit what I do, where Im going to go to college, what my political views are, the way I think, what I read, what sort of things I take part in (like I am pretty sure they are generally against me volunteering for american rainbow rapid response) etc. etc.
I can not stand it!! I honestly havn't felt anger toward anyone/thing in over six months but this is really bothering me
    :nopity:

    just burn one.

or else just tell them you're gonna do/say/think whatever you want, regardless of them, if thats how you feel.

look on the bright time, at least they waited until you were 16. that started at birth for some of us, even during stages of imprint vulnerability.

not an hour would go by where they would call or see what i was doing/ what im going to be doing today
they always have to have the full story behind everything
always trying to tell me what to do in university/work/life pretty much

i'm not sure if this is the "reccommended" thing to do, but just stop including them in your life. just do what feels right to you, don't like go out of your way to disobey them, and if they confront you, you'll be able to give reasons as to why you did something. if they have a problem letting go, ask what they're going to do with themselves once you turn 18.

It was like that since birth with me. My mother was/is EXTRMELY by the book, and pure Baptist Christian and Republican Bush Lover. I remember she would always encourage me to make fun of democrats and people who believed differently. She used to show me off to family members when I would act like Bill Clinton and be stupid.
I learned what was happening at about 15, when my Dad(divorced from her) told me all this shit she's been hiding... which was a horrible thing for a father to do, but if I was my dad, I'd also be annoyed at how much my mother controlled me.
But I basically dropped her completely out of my life, other than necessary conversations, such as "What's for dinner" "You're failing English" and so on. But I used to tell her EVERYTHING. But the problem now, is that she thinks I'm a horrible kid that does drugs and drinks every weekend... I only smoke when I can.
She has no idea I no longer support Bush, or even Christianity for that matter, and am really hesitnt to break that to her, because she would probabaly kick me out if she knew I wasn't a Christian.
Allow them to control the things parents need to... but you should tell them you'll believe what you want

Asilos, you seem more than intelligent enough to explain to them that you have a different way of thinking and different opinions than them. Remind them that you turn 18 in two years, and they should allow you to make your opinions on matters, because it's an important skill to have in life when somebody isn't telling you what to believe.

If they can't accept that, then they might be a little ignorant. They should be glad to have such an open-minded son.

My moms used to screw with me to no end in and out of group homes and psych wards from 13-15 on the streets from 15-16 and institutionalized from 16 1/2-18. She once told me at 10 pm when I was 15 watching the simpsons that i was not allowed to watch the simpsons and it was past my bedtime [?-] then called the cops on me for throwing stuffed animals at the wall. my mom probably had me arrested for no fucking reason at all 20 times my freshman and sophmore year of high school and i was even in group homes and shit a lot of that time.

I cudnt handle it and summer after my sophmore year of HS I was living at this really cool grouphome and just beginning to think I migh be able to stay out of her house and finish high school my mom got the assholes at the school district to fund me going to a residential treatment facility based on the fact that i had missed so much school... dicks i only missed so much school from her fucking with me.

Anyways I broke and spent 12 months on the street between Chicage and Wisconsin including a winter. Ended up getting busted anyways and institutionalized till I was 18.

even though I felt like I had won for that year, i lost the battle and the war cuz that joint was like kindergarden for teenagers so i got a diploma but no education... blah blah.

My point is this you will be 18 soon enough, just tolerate whatever bullshit you have to go through, cuz after you're 18 they can't F with you like that anymore... it's really worth waiting.

If i cud go back i wudnt have hit the streets, sure i wud have missed out on sum free drugs and garbage meals and spine clenching cold, but i'd be as free as i am today either way.

John, at least your not married to someone who is
telling you to change your life! haha
Because with parents, no paperwork is required to
    break off that control.
But remember, one of the greatest honours a
person can have is to respect the parent's desires,
even if it interferes with your own.
No matter what anyone does, no one can take away
your self respect, and your mind is always free.
    Beside's your almost 18 anyway :D

Yea, since I became a parent, my eyes were opened,
    wide
But I can see some things, and doing them myself for
my son's sake, but when it comes to personal life
choice, as in prayer, religion, style of clothing, etc.
I would never put my foot down. That is freedom I
always wanted and would never change my personality
    for anyone.

Well, I can explain my ideas and that Im not going to change them perfectly fine, they're just going to not want to pay for my college education, but hopefully Ill be able to work that out. I actually don't think it will be too huge of a deal when it actually comes to the point of me going to college. I think theyre just trying to change my opinions now while they "have time"

My friend is 26, been out of college 4 years now, and is still paying it off. It costs more than his rent per month. Their interests that they throw on there are incredible. He is actually just getting promoted to a co-manager of a McDonalds! Boy college sure did a lot of good in his life, imo.
