Hello!!! My name is Chris, I’m 21 and I live in England. Just wanted to say hi in a place that people will see it and to ask a question really (which sounds abit dumb but here goes). One of my main hobbies for the last few years has been weight-lifting. I know there are no formal codes for been a hippie, but does this contradict the lifestyle, message, etc too much?? I’ve always been interested in the sixties, into the music of the 60's/70's, what happened and what the different cultures were about, but it’s only recently that I’ve wanted to ‘become’ a hippie and part of a today counter-culture. Basically, I never had a lot of friends (despite that I’ve never been nasty to anyone intentionally) throughout high school and further ed, so I’ve never properly tried things like weed and everything else people seem to have done or do on here in their teens. That probably leads me to another question, is it too late??

Anyway, thanks and hello. Sorry if this is a stupid post, but I thought I’d get it out of the way and hopefully out of my mind.

    Peace

I weightlift/powerlift regularly & feel it is a very healthy practice. It is a commitment I've made in order to preserve a level of physical fitness not common among folks my age; it's a part of my lifestyle. Frankly I couldn't care less that some folks might think it unbecoming to fill a certain mold or image.

You live your life by your rules; be socially responsible and it shouldn't matter whether or not you lift weights, run, bike, or whatever to maintain physical fitness. In the manner that you treat the environment outside your body with respect, you should also treat your inner environment.

Too late for what? Trying weed? You need to make your own decisions and stop trying to get your cues from others. Anyone who is willing to pass judgement on you on the basis of whether or not you use drugs, lift weights, or anything else, isn't worth the time and effort to modify your behavior and lifestyle for. Listen to your inner voice and you will know what's right for you and the truly hippie at heart will accept you for whoever you are.

    Peace

Weight I do not lift. Of sports I do usual exercises and on foot on a ladder I go
And to smoke a weed not necessarily. I have many friends which almost do not smoke.

Just be who you are.You can't become a hippie. There are only a handful of truly enlightened people out there, the rest are wanna bes and hangers on.Don't become one of those.Be yourself and if it's in you the hippie will come out.If not it just don't matter.

Hi! Thanks for responding to me. I just thought it might seem strange with a (not to blow my own trumpet at all) fairly muscly guy at a rainbow gathering or hippie gathering or whatever, but it makes me happy so why not I guess, if people don't think I fit into their definitions then that is their problem. I just want to live life fully and achieve stuff aswell as spreading peace and happiness to people. You're all right and I enjoyed reading what you wrote. Thanks for making me smile [IMG]
