I’ve posted two pics from my collection which might inspire you … I’ve taken the first one in Egypt - a few years back! This fellow barefooter was working in the midst of the desert. I met him near Gizeh, exploring a remote archaeological site… It was just after noon and REALLY hot!!! I was barefoot too – as usual – but the difference is: For him, it’s nothing special at all, even under those extreme conditions! That’s so cool… I’m sure: Leaving for his work in the morning, he’s not even thinking about the sharp stones, the hot ground etc.! Many of us are still somehow “proud” how much their toughened soles can handle… But for a true full-time barefooter (you’ll meet many in India and the so-called “Third World”!), living barefoot is nothing more and nothing less than NORMALITY! He’ll never reflect on his barefoot lifestyle! We can learn a lot from the barefooter in this picture – and other true barefooter we meet on the road: ABSOLUTE confidence – in our feet, our tough soles AND our lifestyle! Look at the second pic – “Indian barefooter”! This one is almost archetypical: In India, you’ll see barefoot people everywhere! This barefooter works on a construction site… Some of his colleagues are barefoot too, some wear flip-flops, some sandals – who cares? And now: Go to ANY barefoot-forum an read a few postings – every second or third one deals with subjects like “barefoot at work”, “barefoot at the office”, “barefoot in the mall” (or in similar places/situations…)! As if it is a heroic deed to go barefoot to one’s workplace! It ISN’T! Reading those kind of threads, I’m often thinking: Is it really impossible in some countries (US, Europe…) to explain others (be it a colleague, co-worker or boss, a shop-owner or bus driver!) that it is TOTALLY NORMAL to stay bare everywhere?
