Yesterday there was a huge commotion on the first floor of my apartment complex. A putrid smell lingered in the air. Like a dead rat smell, only it was really more like 300 dead rats. Police located the source of the smell and entered the suspected apartment. They found the decomposing body of my 70-something year old neighbor. She had been dead for about two weeks. She had no friends, no family that we know of. She was mentally impaired in my opinion, mostly everyone was afraid of her, especially the kids. The smell went all the way up 4 floors. It was unbearable. The body is still there, investigators are looking around the apartment. Today they found the body of my other neighbor, also a woman nearing her 70s.
oh my word! So, if I'm reading this right - there were 2 dead bodies of 70 something yr old women found in your apartment building recently? One was just dead longer? ewwww I take it neither had any cats? lol ^^^ too soon, right?
Yeah that's what scares me most about a last man on earth type situation. The smell. That's all I thought about when I read THE STAND
The postman complained to our super about the first woman's mailbox being full and him not being able to get anything else inside. Both the super and mailman knocked on her 1st floor apartment door, but to no avail. They noticed a smell emanating from the apartment and decided to called the police. The police confirmed the stench was coming from the apartment. They estimate she had been dead for about 14 days when they found her. A second body was discovered in a 3rd-floor apartment a day after police discovered the first body. This one was suffering from insomnia.
Same. But my consolation is, from stories of conflict I've listened to, I believe she was the type that wanted, or needed, to be alone.
All I know is most of her neighbors were afraid of her. It seems like she suffered from bipolar disorder, among other things, and had been for quite some time. Some were afraid that she would behave violently. I never witnessed anything myself. The weirdest thing is I don't remember seeing her wear anything other than a nightgown when she was out of her apartment.
