Here's an update... is it just me, or is this just wrong?

My mom had a meeting with a child psychologist or whatever today... They talked for a good 1-2 hours, and they wrote up an entire report about my brother.. she literally told him everything... Now, they're setting up appointements for him to get a full medical exam, an entire catscan on his brain, a shit ton of other things, and a bunch of therapy...

In my opinion, that's wrong... If i was his age and going through this, it'd personally make me worse.. it'd make me mad.. There's nothing wrong with him, he's just a stubborn little pre-teen shit head that refuses to listen... Back in the good old days they'd just smack him and tell him to smarten up... That's the way it should be done, talking to a therapist and getting all of this medical treatment won't do anything but make him believe something is wrong with him.. it'll make him delusional..

Although, i'm not sure what else they could do.. he isn't necessarily the typical stubborn teenager.. I was never like this.. He will honestly not go to school for like 10 or more days straight.. he'll just sleep in until noon, and stay in his room alll day long.. and refuses to leave it, and when we try forcing him he cries.. he's an emotional wreck

Personally, i think it's just some sort of depression.. Something he just needs to suck up and get over.. He's 13, his issues are just as meaningless as mine lol..

I just really dont think my mom should be putting him through all this... But who knows, maybe he does have some sort of bi polar disorder, or depression, or whatever.. but to me, that's all bullshit too.. no "disorder" is fucking you up, you're fucking yourself up, you're in control of your emotions if you really try hard enough.. But this is just my personal opinion, if you disagree then that's yours..

 

You know... I once heard that paraplegic people are just whiners and if they tried hard enough they could get up and walk.

lol i'm sorry i guess i just don't understand... We've both been through the exact same things, hell we shared a room for the majority of our lives.. I've seen what he's seen and been through the exact stuff.. And i know i don't need therapy, so i feel sympathy for him.. nobody wants to go through all that..

I guess it's not just as simple as sucking it up and getting over it.. but c'mon, it can be done.. I feel like complete shit and depressed a lot too, but i can pull myself out of it, i can help myself more than a bunch of doctors can.. I know my mind better than them, and so does he!

So that's why i don't like the idea of this... only he can help himself i think

Although, i do tend to forget he is 5 years younger than me a lot of the times..

 

So, your theory is that everyone would be identical if raised in the same way?

Also, I am amazed that you and your brother have spent 24 hours a day together since birth and experienced identical lives.

Next time I see someone in a wheel chair I will make sure I remember this conversation and let them know that they were just raised wrong and if they really wanted to, they could get up and walk.

I truly thank you for sharing this bit of wisdom with us. Silly me, I had it all ass backwards.

Well, most people's minds are a physical thing that suffer from the same type of ailments as the rest of the body.

Claiming that someone with a 'mental' problem should just suck it up and get over it makes as much sense as telling someone who is in a wheelchair that they should just suck it up and get over it.

There are many 'mental' problems that have physical causes. When you claim that they are just a matter of attitude, you are insulting any person who suffers from them.

As I have watched one of my best friends go through life being treated like shit by people like you who want to think that they are choosing to act in that manner, it does tend to make me speak out when I see it happening.

Of course, you can choose to ignore all this (and me) and continue along in an ignorant manner, insulting those who suffer from physical problems that effect how their mind works.

The other option would be to try to learn something about what your brother may be going through and finding a way to help him.
