What would I tune the strings to to do this?

Uhhh... Down a half step, duh!

The E string becomes E-flat/D-sharp, and so on and so forth.

 What are you planning on playing? :D

(ie: Stevie Ray Vaughan always tuned down a half step)

You should just tune all the way down to C-- Kyuss-style!

If you have a chromatic tuner this can be easy. A half a step down is having every note half a step down. A half step is an interval and to the guitar it’s a one fret distance. So, E becomes Eb and so forth.

From the low E to the high E it goes

Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb

The best way is to buy a capo and place it on the first fret then tune to standard pitch. Take it off and you have it tuned down a half step.

Phish played "Waste" a half step down on the album.. it was the devil to figure out how they made it sound that way, so I ended up just playing it higher :p

I normally tune down half a step when I want to be extra bluesy. Tis one of my most used alternate tunings to EADGBE

if your going from standard tuning which is EADGBE tuning down half a step will give you DGCFAD which is drop D tuning i use this tuning all the time when i use my DEATH METAL pedal.

No it isn't, dropped d tuning is when you drop the low E a tone, to a D.

    Dropped D is tuned DADGBE

What you have done is tuned down a whole-step.

One of the only farmous electric songs for DADGAD (mostly an acoustic folk/fingerstyle tuning) is Kashmir by Led Zeppelin.
