Let me know what you think. That is me on the Tuba. The drums are just loops since we don't have a drummer at the moment. We are looking for a replacement. Our goal is to get a 10 song Demo EP out in a few weeks. https://soundcloud.com/tonebender-music/colossal-squid https://soundcloud.com/tonebender-music/mob-bossa
The page loaded , but would not play . I dont know if it because I am running Linux or what . I hear a lot of tuba in Mexican music .
It worked the second time I tried it . I think i like the first link a bit better , it has a little less tuba in it .
Was that a dig at the Tuba? Yeah the tuba might be mixed a bit high on the Bossa Nova tune. It can be a bit tricky to get that right since we are a trio. We really need some more chordal instruments in the group to fill it out.
Was that a back-handed compliment. There are actually a lot of groups that are starting to use the tuba. About 10 years ago there was a group called drums and tuba that put out a few albums. There are some others but I am blanking on the names at the moment. Mexican Banda music uses lots of tuba too.
it wasn't back-handed. i suppose the songs were not what i expected when you said tuba rock. i could pick out the tuba since i was expecting it, but it wasn't tuba centered or tuba heavy. i have nothing against the tuba. i thought the songs sounded pretty decent. that is all
I was just giving you a hard time. In order to play the tuba, you simply cannot take yourself too seriously. Otherwise you are in for a long difficult road. My mom once forgot to pick me up from school and I had to stand on the corner with my tuba for like thirty minutes. I was a senior in highschool. If I couldn't laugh at myself, that would be difficult to handle. I pretty much try to think of myself as the bass player. I prefer the more groove oriented playing. Nothing too fancy. I am glad you found them listenable. This is my first time playing anything like this. The guitar player is much better than I am. I think that most people really don't know what to expect. We played at an open mic for about 30 minutes once. People in the bar quite interested in the tuba. We even had one guy dancing.
Dude you are a fantastic tuba-man! Nice articulation one on that first tune, man you've got great tone...I totally dig your sound. I play trumpet and I approve of this message...:2thumbsup:
Thanks Gongshaman. Tuba was kind of my thing in High School. I took lots of lessons and thought about going to school for it, but preferred playing as a hobby. The first tune was a tricky one to match with the guitar. I had to try lots of different articulations to get it to line up. I am glad you like them. If you are ever in Buffalo, we can do some jamming.
