*Below are URL's to organizations taking contributions for emergency aid... There has been a disaster unparalleled in modern history. With over 135,000 people killed (and millions left homeless) in Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India. The "costliest" disaster in world history. I am sure we are all trying to process the horrific loss of life and destruction that had dominated the news since x-mas. Such a mass exodus of spirits all at once, most likley 150,000 within a 15 minute period, is almost beyond our ability to grasp. It is a time that calls into question our faith and shakes the foundation of that which we hold to be normalcy. The power of nature is the ultimate equalizer... there is no authority of a human nature against the will of the natural. I have spent a lot of time trying to comprehend it all, but there is no way to accept so much trauma, the children, the total devastation. This too will be comforted only by embrace of the folding arms of time. This is a time to take stock in our own lives, and give thanks that our reality is what it is. Sometimes the grass is greener on our own side. If you can help, you can contribute something to one of these organizations: http://www.doctorswithoutborders http://www.redcross.org http://www.directrelief.org http://www.imcworldwide.org http://www.opusa.org http://www.savethechildren.org Please kick down, anything helps, skip that next gram of nugs for the orphans and homeless 5 million people, ok? Guarantee a house call from the Good Karma Doctor! Peace be with you. Love, Viv-
Here in new zealand heaps of Sri Lankans are holding sausage sizzles' (sausage and onions on a piece of bread with tomamto sauce) that cost a dollar each. So i'll just buy acouple of sausages . Hey is it true that the US was real hesitant to help out at first? Thats what i heard anyway. Something about the rest of the world not helping out when the US was hit with all those hurricanes or something. Thats pretty sad. Anyhoo, i wish everyone the best of luck over there and i hope that everyone is eventually re-united with there families.
If the US can help them when they're "in war" they can help them by throwing a few bills their way...
The United States (Bush Administration) has squandered so much money with the combination of tax cuts for Bush's cronie class and the terribly expensive and illegal invasion of Iraq that there is scarcely any money to contribute to the aid relief efforts for the victim nations (11) of the tsunami. Bush had contributed a paltry sum originally, but after criticism from a UN official he just doubled it. Blessings on all the hearts that have been broken from this catastrophe, and god's speed to many spirits who have left their bodies. Truly a huge global event on a spiritual level to have that kind of exodus of spirit.
Blessings, and hope on their hearts for sure. Sorry to hear about your cousin Orsino. It all seems so unreal, i really wish i could do something to help.
They say the earthquake was so powerful it permenently accelerated the rotation of the earth.... This is a defining moment in our history on the Earth. We can never even begin to understand the devastation that has taken place.
Oh this is just so awful,i am so sorry to hear of your losse's Orsino2 and greeneyedbaby My deepest sympathies are with you,and everyone who has lost loved ones in this tragic disaster~~ God bless them all~~
I'll be sending a donation. The news on TV is horrifying. The death toll has passed 80,000 and is rising by the hour as rubble is cleared away to find bodies of people who were trapped inside their homes when that wall of water smashed through. Makeshift morgues are everywhere piled with corpses waiting for mass graves to become available. Homeless survivors who have lost everything, traumatized by the loss of family and friends. The bodies are being disposed of quickly to try to prevent a plague, but there's further talk that many more could die from disease from contaminated water, uncontrolled mosquitos and a total lack of sanitation. Some remote areas haven't been reached yet, but aerial footage of some villages show almost no sign of civilization, everything is gone. And it's all just a small example of what nature is capable of doing to us.
I had read today that so far the international pledge so far has been $260 million dollars. To me that seems pathetic. That's less than a $1.00 for every US resident. an even more sickening comparison: George Bush spent $274 million dollars on his campaign this past fall and Kerry wasn't too far behind him. Now I know that money and supplies will continue to roll in, but thus far I am staggered at how little has been provided to these poor people.
The Earth wobbled on its axis! My condolences to all who have lost friends and loved ones. This is sure to affect many of us before it is all said and done. I'm still in shock. As a parent, it's unbearable to see and hear stories of parents watching their children die. Life is so damned fragile. I've been hugging my son a lot in the last few days. Even told my parents I loved them. I'm not usually a praying man, butright now I figure it can't hurt.
Thanks man, I been prayin' too. We all need to step up to the plate on this one and do *something*. Kilgore Trout? There used to be a band from Seattle named that. Is that some kind of Kuryt Vonnegut thing or something? I forget what that comes from. The loss of life and broken families, the infrastructure devastation... the traumatic impact on hundreds of thousands... this will last a long, long time. I hope to Goddess that this is not the beginning of some pattern of bad shit going down on an eco-level. The way things have been going, the two elections, sept.11, OJ, Iraq, all the surreal things that have been happening... nothing is shocking anymore. Like Chief Sealth (Seattle) said..."the end of living and the beginning of survival". Much love and many hugs to all, Viv-
