Dose anyone know how to take care of a pineapple plant? I've got one that's about a year old in a pot. I did nothing but put the crown in some soil I mixed from left over potting soil and stuff I found around the garden. What do I do to make it thrive and grow BIG pineapples?

As I understand it, pineapples require poor well drained acid soil.

    I grow pineapple tops.
Mine are under a year right now, I tend to lose alot from frosts and a forgetful mind to bring them inside.

They like slightly acidic soil, lots and lots of sunlight, humidity (try spraying them every so often with a spray bottle) and try to keep the soil from getting to damp.

basically to grow big juice pineapples you will need to mimic a tropical atmosphere for them if you arent from a tropical area.. AS far as I know it can take 2-5 years or more to produce a fruit. So be paitent and just give it alot of attention.

If it has a good root system developed and is growing new shoots from the center, a healthy looking green color then you are on the right track.
If you get brown shoots, just cut them off.

If its a good size you can try to trick it into producing fruit for you. Im not sure how we it works but check out:

    Good Luck!

Great link, this is going to be quite a project. Any easy way to tell if my soil is acid (other than buying a soil test kit.)?
