I put some "demi-permanent" blues in my dreads almost 6 months ago (after many bleaches) and i have not been able to fade it out. I don't want to bleach or strip it out, since my hair is fairly damaged already, so I'm hoping for a healthier, gentler solution. I read a little about a bs/lemon juice combo rinse but couldn't find any details on mixing recipe/quantities, or how long to leave it, etc. Also heard from a friend that head & shoulders shampoo got rid of her blue (she doesn't have dreads) so I bought some and tried it with minimal to no result, and later read h&s can leave a residue, so I'm not too excited to go that route except as a last resort. Anyone have experience with this?

On a side note, i also read that bleached hair holds color longer because it is porous, and i was wondering if trying to replenish lost protein/nutrients would help the color fade? (Also need a little advice on natural replenishment for my sad dreaddies)

    Thanks in advance

Update: i found a recipe for a baking soda/lemon juice paste and tried it on one of my locks. It said to leave it in for 10 minutes but on top of having dreads i also have naturally very thick hair so i left it on about an hour or so. It started to turn my dread white as it dried (of course) so i thought it was working. But when i rinsed, my hair was as blue as ever. Going to try again tomorrow and see if i get any results

I used head and shoulder shampoo to fade the orange in my hair. It slowly faded over time, but didn't take the colour out completely. What brand of dye did you use?

I've heard if you crush up vitamin c pills into a paste and leave it in your hair overnight it can really fade stubborn dye. Might be worth a try.

I don't think it will all come out at once. I went for 3 years without deep cleaning my dreads and started doing them weekly about a month and a half ago. I use 2 different soaks. The first one I do twice.

In a sink or basin mix 1 box of baking soda, a quarter cup of sea salt, juice from a half a lemon, a quarter cup of vinegar about 10 drops each of lavender, rosemary, and tea tree essential oils with hot water. Get your hand down in there and break up any clumps making sure everything dissolves.

Soak your dreads as completely as possible for 20 minutes. When you are done bunch up your dreads and put a plastic bag over them and wait another 20 minutes.

    Repeat those last 2 steps.

To finish I like to use this soak that I found to fight dread rot as it will also thoroughly rinse out any left over baking soda and act as a conditioner.

Mix 1 cup white vinegar, 10 drops lavender oil, 10 drops rosemary oil, 20 drops tea tree oil and 30 drops of grapefruit seed extract and hot water. Soak and bag as before.

After you have done all of that shower and wash/ rinse your hair as you normally would.
