I never understood that toilet paper shortage thing.

There was of course the Great Toilet Paper Scare of 1973 when Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show said “There is an acute shortage of toilet paper in the good old United States. We gotta quit writing on it!"
which sent nearly 20 million people running to the stores buying toilet paper,

    But who initiated this one?

Back when COVID first hit and all the stores were out of toilet paper there was a guy in Walmart telling a couple of women that he blamed the fact that there was no toilet paper, paper towels, napkins or kleenex on "Them Demokrats"...

I didn't ask him to clarify because I try not to talk to knuckledraggers unless I'm forced to.....

So... I guess it was "Them Demokrats" that started it.....

I wonder who he blamed for the bleach shortage?

Did you think a disinfectant wasn't going to disinfect?

We knew this would happen the moment Dr Fauci decided to go off message and refused to lie for the administration.

What's more pathetic is Dr Fauci is receiving more positive press than Trump and that's irking him more than the science.

Trump now in open dispute with health officials as virus rages

Five months into a still-raging pandemic that has killed more than 130,000 Americans, the long-simmering tensions between President Donald Trump and the health experts who staff his government have escalated from private griping to shrugging disagreement to now open dispute.

The result, people at those agencies say, is a new sense of demoralization as they continue their attempts to fight a once-in-a-generation health crisis while simultaneously navigating the whims of a President who has shown little interest or understanding of their work.

That Trump does not trust nor follow the advice of experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease specialist, is hardly new. The President has not attended a meeting of his coronavirus task force in months and recently its sessions have been held outside the White House, including on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Department of Education. Fauci was told to participate in the meeting remotely by videoconference, preventing him from participating in a midday task force press briefing.

The more I think about it, the more I feel there has been an immense disservice done to the American people.

The concept of sacrifice isn't lost on me. However I don't think that it's right to sacrifice lives for the benefit of the economy.

I feel like in an absolutely vain attempt to save the economy, the President will attempt to lure schools into reopening, subjecting our youth to the virus.

And I believe whole heartedly that this is being done in an attempt to preserve numbers; figures that have no value to those who die. Only those who survive would benefit. It isn't fair.

Soul - I hope this didn't "just now" occur to you. It shouldn't take any amount of thinking ............…. it's been an in-your-face shit-show from the start. Rump's handling (campaign of misinformation and deflection) of the Covid-19 pandemic has the U.S. at THE TOP of the global case count by a large margin. Rump's "red state faithful" in Arizona, Texas, Florida and South Carolina are now the ENTIRE GLOBAL LEADERS in Covid cases. 36 states now have spiking case numbers because Rump wanted everything opened up to make his economic numbers look good. Rump's poll numbers are the most important thing to him ………………….. not people's lives and health.

It is self-evident now, after all the "tough guys" who refused to wear masks have caused a huge spike in cases, that the advice of the medical experts has been correct all along. States that locked down, took the mask-wearing and social distancing seriously are doing much better. The states doing better also have been slower and more cautious to "re-open" - following stricter public health guidelines and using FACTS to steer their actions. Those states & people who followed Rump's brainless advice …………………. well ………………….. you see where THAT got them. For many folks - it won't be their "Constitutional rights" that will be getting trampled on ………………………… it'll be their own graves.

Pray tell which states you think are doing better?

This one is a good site for letting you know just how well everybody in each state was following the stay at home orders for the last 4 months

    CDC COVID Data Tracker

Name at least one state, the bluest state you can think of that is doing well with the number of cases

When you quote someone's exact words, it's best to use their exact words.
    What Fauci said was:
Not "How do you do contract tracing if you don't know who is infected?"

Next you must provide context for the statement. He was comparing traditional contract tracing methods as when an outbreak occurs in a closed area, such as a meat packing plant as opposed to a community outbreak where you can't tell who has contacted who.

Otherwise your comments are friggin useless

Pa is doing pretty well at the moment. Deaths are way down.

    COVID-19 Data for Pennsylvania
We have a slight uptick, but testing has gone way up so that may be a factor.

I feel too thought that the decision to wear a mask maybe is political more than demographic; though I don't know that that's what you were driving at.

The blue-est state... Probably New York or California; neither of which are doing particularly well. It may be that it relates to high density in the population.

PA comes in at 10th highest when you rank the states on covid deaths per million population

8 out of the top 10 have Democrat Governors

I find that a little odd because aren't democratic governors imposing more restrictions?

So, if its a red state with a high number of cases, its because they are all following Trump and not wearing masks, but when its a blue state doing shit its population density?

If masks are so effective and everyone in blue states are being good little boys and girls, then population density shouldnt matter

You are going by what you want to be true, not what is true

    Its not really about politics

Seriously, play around with this site:

    CDC COVID Data Tracker

See if you can find a single state that had more than 50% of residents actually staying home during the height of the lockdowns

Keep in mind, you needed 80% of the population to stay at home for the lockdowns to work and actually flatten the curve

Forget about opening up too early, at that point of opening up you hadny flattened the curve enough anyway
