'On Day One': Trump Vows to End Protections for LGBTQ Students Don't pretend to be our ally if you vote for people who want to hurt us.
As you have no doubt realized, I believe in complete equality, but the LGBTQ community are not more equal than everyone else. I therefore think that nanny state laws and rules end up doing more harm that good, since they start off by assuming that we are not all equal. For all his goofy ways, Donald Trump has a lot of common sense. If he remembered to put his brain in gear before he opened his mouth, he would justify his thoughts. His outburst regarding China, was the start of the fake news and his demise. How people in the US are so easily fooled defies belief. Meanwhile, we in western Europe have cut our trading with China by about 70%
Imagine being a rich, straight, white, cis man, and being this fragile. His supporters seem to think he is a strong person; I've no idea why
Educated and informed voters are needed to stop all this. A little humanity would not hurt either. Someone tried this in the early 30's. That was over 10 years of hell we are still talking about. This is that slippery slope we all get warned about. What is next? Left handed people? Women? (already moving that direction) Elderly? (Leaning that way too) Mentally challenged? (Reagan let that charge) We already have one foot slipping down that slope. When do we fall?
Half of Donald Duck's supporters claim the sun revolves around the earth, while even mentioning that the common dictionary is as common as dirt, is fighting words. The only question about Donald Duck, is why none of our teachers can teach a child the earth revolves around the sun, and the Pentagon and Tea Party are allowed to censor everyone.
Utter horseshit. Title IX doesn't convey "special rights" or make anyone "more equal than others"; it prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. This explicitly includes harassment of LGBTQ students. In 2020-20021, 80% of LGBTQ students experienced harassment or physical assault based upon sexual orientation, gender expression, or race or ethnicity. Nearly 60% of students reported hearing teachers or other school staff make homophobic remarks, and more than 70% heard staff make negative comments about gender expression, more often than not with a wink and a nod from school administrators. Meanwhile, Republicans have proffered 503 bills attacking the LGBT community in 2023 alone. Not surprisingly 82% of LGBTQ kids feel unsafe at school, are twice as likely as heteronormative kids to suffer anxiety and depression, and one in three contemplate suicide. You're goddamned right "we are not all equal"; what part of the above sounds like equality to you? Or, since you've had the privilege of never experiencing that level of discrimination, is it easy for you to blithely dismiss it and pretend it doesn't exist? Trump is a goddamned Fascist (it's not hyperbole; look it up) who besides abrogating Title IX has publicly stated that among other things he would be dictator from "day one", wants to round up 11 million people into concentration camps, eliminate a free and impartial judiciary and civil service, and weaponize the DOJ and the US military to attack his enemies; he's even expressed his admiration for Hitler to several of his staff.
My worries are that (at least here in the UK) LGBTQ relationships are considered fairly normal. When our daughter joined the club, marriage presented no problems and her career as a London police officer was in no way affected. They bought a house and we now have 2 lovely grandchildren. They are completely accepted in the local community. History has shown already, that nanny state interference mostly does more harm than good, particularly in race relations. Complete harmony can never be achieved from a starting point that any group of people are different. That was why I question the need for Biden's leglistration. Unfortunately, rather than making his points articulately, Trump has the nasty habit of putting both feet in it at once.
That one is a very different situation and one that should cause us to hang our heads in shame. 70 years ago we always had the village idiot, but in rural areas the local community supported him (or her), providing odd jobs, making sure that the house was safe and providing a few meals. Things went wrong as the cities grew and people who could not hold down a job at the bank became outcast. Rather than finding solutions, doctors resorted to unnecessary pills. The situation has improved over the last decade, but it still has a long way to go. Unfortunately, pressures of city life have actually increased the number of people falling below the completely man made threshold. Our daughter (who I mentioned previously) has done a lot of work on that one. With the sponsorship of the London evening standard, banks have agreed to a non credit account without a fixed address, local authorities provide temporary housing and supermarkets are providing food before it goes out of date. With the support of the Metropolitan Police, alcohol and drug rehabilitation is offered. The project helps find work at the right time during the process. Homelessness in London has dropped by more than 70% over the last few years. The best part is that as other cities are following the lead, officials from other parts of the world are taking an interest. These include several cities from the USA. I obviously cannot name names, but I believe that Walmart are involved.
