I am trying Not to see my politicians, our politicians, through a lens of Marvel superheros or villans. The depreciation of our values and institutions;.... well that could be another thread. These people get only a limited time in office, so far, thankfully things have balanced out. The big question is: will the alternative candidate be a better leader? a subjective question.
This is the 2004 election all over again. The media put Lieberman (compared to Biden) in the front of the race, who fell flat on his face early on to an unexciting milquetoast Kerry (comparable time Buttgeek)
A lawless President who is determined to pack the courts with right wing judges can do a lot of damage in two terms. I don't think it's an entirely subjective question. We can draw on experience and judgment to make rational decisions about actions and their consequences. Yes, that's usually the question.
No superheroes in sight, but there are real villains, one occupying the Oval Office. And although he lacks superpowers, he has lots of real power to do lots of real damage! We naturally resist thinking in those terms, but sometimes it's true. Other countries have found out the hard way.
Crazy times....but fast forward to 2020 What difference did it all make? You won't catch me defending G.W, the guy actually was a moron
Well there was certainly a body count from the wars. And lots of people suffered economic loss during the recession. And torture was corrosive to our values--albeit nothing like the broader assault on those (the rule of law, congressional oversight, common decency, etc.) we're currently experiencing under Trump.
well at least you admit it. not necessarily the exact same list, but any current establishment politician has a comparable rap sheet to their name.
So, torturing Iraqis wasn't as corrosive to (by our, I assume you mean America's) values as the lack of common decency you are currently experiencing under Trump? That is what you just said You don't think that's a tad overly dramatic?
I admit what? That I don't support politicians who lie, cheat, steal, buddy up to dictators and war criminals, grab women's pussys, insult war heroes, disparage the free press, have secret meetings with Putin, on and on.....?
Iraqis were tortured during a Republican Bush Administration, by US Troops under orders and protection of Republican Donald Rumsfeld.
