I think they're saying it's a crime to not be Muslim. That's nothing new.

I read something about this. Seems like the angry Muslims overreacted. Of course they are extremists.

Turkey used to be an example where it comes to secularity.

Last line in Mally's link says it all:

Erdogan's government is strongly favouring the conservative muslim majority in his country with all kinds of policies. Critical journalists are fired, thrown in jail or worse on a regular basis. This is all in the name of the norms and values this country stands for of course, kind of like the predominant christians in the US. But it has not really been like that all the time! It's kind of sad, not just for other people in Turkey and the international community but also for this turkish majority who may like and favor Erdogan's approach at this time, but at the same time want Turkey to play a bigger role in the international community, and be part of the EU. Which is never going to happen if they're enforcing stupid things like this.
You can't even have a peaceful demonstration in the streets there anymore. Although these days they might use the excuse that there is a terrorist threat (not based on completely nothing as Turkey has to deal with terrorism as well, there recently has been terrible terrorist attacks that seem just as worse as those in Paris and some in the US...)

Listening to western rock music in countries trapped behind the iron curtain would typically result in this sort of thing.

    Yes.
European countries like Croatia, Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, the three Baltic states....
Mostly ethincally homogenous. Sure, there are Muslims, but not Arab.

    For now.

Of course, if you're in the EU, you get your quota of refugees (depending on several factors) that you just have to "receive" and host.
So a few weeks ago, the Croatian representatives and officials travel to Greece, to overflowing refugee camps, to interview those who'd like to go to Croatia, a country that is entirely safe.
What happens? Literally no one wants to go. There is not one person (migrant or refugee) that showed any interest in going to Croatia. Literally zero.
My question is - okay, you get your quota, so what next? Can you force someone to go? If yes, what will happen? They will peacefully accept their fate and not get angry, or still try to get to Germany?
If you're running from war, I'd think you wouldn't pick and choose so much. But that's just me.

    Sorry for the off-topic rant.

    I just don't get it.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But it is my understanding that western entertainment media was forbidden in that time period. Yet certain underground establishments still played rock music and fostered their own underground rock bands. I only say that because this is what I learned after spending a half year in the Czech Republic, and this is what I was told by the locals.
