Well, I came across some money recently, and would like to spend it on a trip to amsterdam for 8 days, lookin' for hotel and everything, and be able to go down to all the cafe's. Just lookin' for where I can find some information on the whole process to make this happen. =)
It's gonna be awhile before I actually do it, but I'm lookin' for all the info now cause I'm gonna need things like a passport and such, I'm sure. It'll have to be a process, ya know? But I'm totally going. Once in a lifetime experience. Totally gatherin' up me, my girl, and a few friends and goin'.
When we went, we just camped in parks, no one minded and at 7am when the council were cutting the grass we even had a joint with him. Amsterdam is far from the best place in the Netherlands, Utrecht is the best for history/beauty and Rotterdam is the best for craziness/random parties/cool people. I'm going back to Rotty in February
Everybody has a chance, you just gotta plan ahead and save up. I got lucky, thanks to my latest raise, and I'm putting all the extra money away for awhile towards the trip. lol. I just need to know how to get a passport, then how to book the flights and the hotel, and if we'll need a vehicle or not. Etc. I wanna hit up the museum and the coffee shops. Pretty much everything that me and my buddies see that might be interesting. I'll post up pictures of the trip for everyone. =)
to get a passport, go to the post office.. it will cost you about 100$ but it will be good for a while.. just ask for an application for a passport.. also, just start lookin and comparing rates with different airlines online.. its best to book sooner rather than later.. you'll get a better deal.. same thing for the hotel.. just do some research.. find an area you'd like to stay.. then go online look for hotels in that area.. from what ive heard, a rented vehicle is just an added expense when in amsterdam.. not really necessary.. the city isnt THAT big.. and foot/bicycle/boat is usually the way to get around there.
From what I've heard Amsterdam doesn't have much to offer other than the obvious - I mean, it sounds like a good place to live, but just to visit I'm not sure. There is legal weed and hookers which is my bread and butter but Paris and London seem to have the best nightlife. Staying in Rotterdam to save money doesn't sound like a bad idea...you will still have easy access to weed with a quick trip to Amsterdam.
but if Amsterdam is where u want to go why not its your vacation. I would say stay in a Hostel instead of a hotel. You can find them for like 20 bucks a day.
A couple of sites you might want to check for info... www.amsterdam.info www.iamsterdam.com There are plenty of places to stay located within walking distance of the central train station in Amsterdam. You can take the train from Schipol airport to Amsterdam. I think there is a campground somewhere in the city, but I'm not sure where it is located. The red light district and most of the coffee shops are also located within walking distance of the train station. Renting a car would probably be a waste of money, as the city is very easy to get around in, and the streets are narrow and somewhat congested. If you want to travel further than you feel like walking, you could rent a bicycle or use public transportation. You can choose to stay in a campground, hostel, hotel, or rent a houseboat or apartment. I have stayed at the Frisco inn a couple of times www.friscoinn.com It was reasonably priced, the rooms were clean, the hotel has a bar and it was close to the train station. I also rented an apartment once, with a couple of friends, but I can't remember the name of the rental agency. The people I met were very friendly and I have always had a good time when visiting Amsterdam.
Not just all of the Netherlands, but most of Europe it is incredibly easy to get great bud, a lot of pub owners (in Germany anyway) sell it under the counter and plenty of the surrounding countries are relaxed about it. Bike is the best way to get around, pretty much the whole country is as flat as a pancake and theres more bikes than cars. Camping leaves plenty more money for bud and mushrooms but if you want comfort on a moderate budget then look up some hostels. We found a great on in Utrecht which was 10€ a night, free food 24/7 plenty of other crazy and interesting travellars and great atmosphere with tv, internet, everything you could want. Don't just stay in the Dam the whole time, the country is very small and the trains are quick and efficient so its very easy to visit more than one city in a day. We found coffee shops in Amsterdam to be slightly more expensive and talking to the locals, the quality of coffee shops in Amsterdam has gone down a great deal with the best coffee shops being in other cities. Mushrooms are available for 15€ a mild trip so 2 does the job nicely and the most amazing place we saw there was the miles and miles of wild forestry just outside Doorn where we camped and tripped for two days...just watch out for the bears Also another alternative for accomodation is to squat, theres always mad raves amongst the squatting community and a lot of the local squatters can get much cheaper weed than the coffee shops aswell as other drugs. All the squatters we met were the friendliest people you could wish for....and seeriously...Rotterdam has a much more lively party atmosphere without the shite tourist feel...I swear we saw more Amerdicans in Amsterdam than Dutch people which got on my nerves a good deal...have fun man and don't forget to eat 4 trips of shrooms and try to hire a hooker..that should be entertaining
Yeah Amsterdam is definitely tourist central, I'm actually happy it's that way as it leaves Rotterdam a lot more chill. Yes there are cannabis shops in rotterdam, they are of the same if not higher quality, but the prices are better and the hostels/hotels are also more economical. I agree on hostel being the way to go, and you really can't go wrong with most of them, just read some reviews to find out which you want to stay at. That forest sounds awesome for tripping, though I am sure tripping on a museum dose at an actual museum would be just as awesome.
