So there is this tree that is realllllly old and beautiful in my community, but THEY want to tear down this beautiful piece of mother nature and put up a fucking Wal Mart. Anyways, me and six of my friends won't stand for this, so we have started to build a house in the tree. Our plan is to live in the tree until the contractor agrees not to build the Wal Mart. We have eight months to put up something that we can live in for a couple of months. Have any ideas for building. We don't need anything fancy like electricity (people lived for thousands of years without it, woy can't we??) or running water (there is a beautiful little stream right next to the tree. Here is a picture of the tree. The park is not there anymore, so no need to take it into consideration when you come up with your awesome ideas.[IMG]

That really is a beautiful old tree. Do you know what kind of tree it is? (I never was any good at identifying different trees.) I wish you all the luck in saving it, it deserves to be saved.

Aside from protecting this tree with your own bodies, there may be other things you can do to prevent a Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is not well liked (at least around here), and a couple of sucessful blockages of new stores being built in Oregon were accomplished by pointing out to the local authorities (city council, etc.) what a problem the excess traffic would be, and also pointing out that Wal-Mart is known for not taking very good care of their employees (low wages, etc.) The traffic problem issue would probably be supported by people in the neighborhood of the tree (if there are any residences nearby). While these people might help stop Wal-Mart for different reasons that you, any way to stop them has the same result.

The more publicity you can get on this locally, the more supporters you might find, even from people who might surprise you. In this area, not too long ago, the county wanted to log off a bunch of old-growth Douglas Fir trees (200-400 years old) from the rural cemetary near here to make extra money. I am told that the people who stopped them were some of the local loggers, of all people, who had decided that enough old growth trees had been cut.

Try to get the local newspapers or TV news to run something about how you want to save this tree because it is so beautiful, of historic value, etc. This should get you some more support. The main thing to do is to try to get support without antagonizing potential supporters by appearing too radical (I not saying you can't be radical, it's just a good trick to not APPEAR too radical) (politicians know this).

See if you can find out (since this area was once a park) what it is zoned for. If it was once a park, it is possible that someone donated this land for use ONLY as a park (a fairly common thing here). If it only supposed to be a park, the news media will raise hell with selling the land to Wal-Mart.

    Again, the best of luck.

Sorry dude, for the sake of keeping my quiet little town quiet, the location of the tree will not be disclosed. Although I personaly think it would be awesome to have the town flooded with hippies! :(

next to a park which calls into question his story, completely.
Plus 300 sigs mean NOTHING to WalMArt.
We had that here and we are still fighting the fight. Things look bleak, but we soldier on... for the river

Bull shit, I checked the dates and times of your posts and both are just hours apart, if wall mart was seriouse on putting up a store and given up because of such reasons, It would take more than a hours man !! There was not enough time to go through the whole process off putting up signes, setting up meetings with lawyers, city mayor etc....

Ok. Hers the deal. I am actually Hot Blades Slone. The Hot Blades Slone who has been saying all of this idiotic stuff is my little sister Rachel posing as me. She is really a she, 11, and and not me. She was being annoying and posing as me, and just bassically being stupid. I appologize for all of the dumb stuff she has done. There is, as I am sure you have all figured out, no tree. We actually live in north eastern PA. So, yea. just wanted to clear that. Up. Me and Rachel are gonna have a little chat about not lying to people. Again, I'm really sorry.
