I'm about to start my first grow (in like a week) and I wanted to know wether to go straight to a bigger pot once my seeds germinate or to use plastic cups (like beer cups) then transplant the plants once they sprout and grow alittle. Will they die if i dont know what im doing when i transplant them (if i do)? also if anyone knows about light color, how are pink/ red tinted lights compared to a straight bulb?
Transplanting is fairly easy, if done properly. You want your soil to be slightly damp, but not soaked. What I do is water one day, then transplant the next. Set the old pot in the larger one to figure out how deep the soil has to be. Hold the old pot in both hands and roll it while pressing inward slightly, to loosen up the soil on the sides. Holding the old pot over the new, you give the bottom a slight thump to loosen the bottom and the soil and plant should slide right out. Place it into the center of the larger container, back fill with dirt and pack it down a bit. Water the new container and you're done. You really need to do more research on lighting, before you go one step further. You might try the new circular fluorecents. The yellow and different colored incadecent (regular light bulbs) will not work, to much heat and not enough light. Good Luck with your adventure...Peace J.B.
also, it's better the less amount of times you have to transplant the better so if you have the space, go ahead and put them in the bigger pots, if not, start with smaller ones and do just what mokie said. And those tinted bulbs wont do a thing for your plant. If you can't afford a HID then use some nice CFL's. You want about 50w per square foot to insure good growth
