Hey, does anyone know if there are any universal policies (among good schools(I'm aiming at Brown)) for transferring? Like if I'm a junior, and my grades are mediocre...etc. I feel like I'm stuck in Buffalo, and I really want to be somewhere else.
I think (here in Oregon, anyway) the classes are standardized so you can easily transfer! But I'm not *totally* sure...
You probebly need to have grades which are above passing for the university of your choice in order to transfer credits.
Every school's transfer criteria is different. You'd have to check with both the institution you're transfering out of and the institution you're transferring into and oftentimes, your counselor or dean can help you out with directing you to the write site or office.
Dancer is right...Transfer credit gets messy when you are going from say a state school to a non-state school. Within the state university system credits usually transfer fairly easily though. If you are planning on transferring be sure to check with the school you want to transfer to that the classes you are going to take at your current school will transfer to the school you want to transfer too...saves a lot of trouble.
I have a friend that went to Brown and loved it. If you are looking to transfer there, I'd say to check out their transfer criteria, and grading system. Then, go another semester at your current school taking classes that you know will transfer over at Brown. Work your butt off to get your grades up to Browns standards, because that school can be a bit hard to get into.
