Trail Days is agreat big Appalachian Trail hiker fesitval that takes place annually in Damascus VA this year it'll be May 17-20. About 4,000 -8,000 hikers take over the lil town of Damascus VA (pop 800) for the weekend and hang out see old friends make new ones and party hardy!!!! Theres a few bands playing but the Hiker Parade and hikers vs. locals water fight and the Hiker Talent Show are the highlights. I love going there to reconnect with the hundreds of hiker friends I've made over the years and just plain ol have fun. I actually met fellow Hipforums member Flmkpr there in '04. If you are interested in hiking or just want to met some really wonderful pholks come on down. Its a 14 hr drive for me but its worth it. www.traildaysinfo.com there's lots pics some of them of yours truly.(BooBoo) I'll also post this under Camping and Outdoors. its just $10 for a parking permit thats it!!!!
I spent 3 nights at a wonderful little hostel-type thing thing there called "The Place" during the 1999 traildays as part of a cross country bicycle tour. Of the whole country, Damascus was my favorite place we visited. Traildays was amazing. I wish I could be there this year, but it's far and I've got no drivers license.
Id ya like I'll contact some of my hiker phamily in VT/NH and possibly arrange a ride. It looks like i will not be going(work, car, lack of funds etc).
