Ok this will be my first official post, I was trying to see if I could find a search option here, so please forgive me if I made a duplicate thread....but anyways, do you guys 40 up, remember the toys we grew up with, my favorite memory as a child *insert roll eyes* was when I was almost strangled by that delightful toy called "wild willy" you know the one where you attached this hard plastic blob on the hose, and if if didn't strangle you you would knock you into a coma, or how how about "klick klacks" yes those two glass balls tied to a string, if you didn't do it right...well you know Do you guys have any special memories....
that monster factory that you could make molten hot rubber into monster heads....dangerous as fuck lawn darts was dangerous too
Yep those were something, hahahaha I remember the easy bake oven. Damn how did we are survive the 60's
We had this pounding block type of game, it was wooden pegs you hit through the holes, that was all you did. Then you flipped it over and hit it again. Guess how many times you could clobber your siblings with that hammer...... We had this game called, I am not kidding, Cottie. It was this stupid bug you took turns rolling and earned body parts.....how sick is that.
I got one of these for xmas. It came with a really short cord too. It's a wonder i didn't burn the house down with it. edit: I was like 6 or 7 when i got it!
Or the good old chemistry set. Got one of those and it had this rocket thing that you mixed vinegar and baking soda and put it together and of course it went nuts and flew, usually right into your forehead.....we thought it was great at the time.
I had those also. The klick klacks were my favorite! You could have broke someone's hand if they got it in the way. lol
Jarts were so much fun. The story goes they were banned because people got hurt from them. Luckily I never witnessed a jart accident.
It says "not a toy" on the package there too. More dangerous than horseshoes anyway. People got messed up on Slip and Slide too.
I remember those mats for water, they were wild. I also remember that shovels for digging in the sand and those little rakes were metal. Got one in the toe more than once. I am starting to think that my sister was trying to kill me for years and I had no clue.
i had an air pump toy rifle and the cork was attached by a 3 foot string so basically it was designed for point blank use which was dangerous enough until we figured out that it would shoot just about anything that fit down the barrel...pens....fruit...marbels....rocks !
The dentist used to give us vials of mercury to play with. Lots of fun watching it roll around, break up and join back together again, we'd get it all over our hands and such. Etch a Sketch used to contain mercury, I believe. Lots of toys had lead paint. Tin toys had sharp edges. How about lead soldiers? Ever be heading down hill and loose your chain on a bike with a coaster brake? Or get your pants caught in the chain? We used to blow things up with cherry bombs and ash cans (which were supposed to be as powerful as a 1/4 stick of dynamite). And of course we were into model rockets, and bb guns.
I remember when we played we sure damn played, thinking about the playground where a kid had to take a knock or two....pure cast iron jungle Gyms, when you fell it was straight down to the ground on pure hard ground with a thin layer of sand, now these kids have plastic swings and a nice fall on soft turf
lol lawn darts ..what were our parents thinking???? my brother and I used to have a bow and arrow...we would shoot the arrows straight up in the backyard and then wait to see where they landed
that woodburning kit reminded me of this thing my brother had to cut beer bottles and make them into glasses.
Its not really a game you can buy off the shelf but when we were kids we used to play mumblety-peg and stretch with our pocketknives Hotwater
i'm only 24, but i still had most of these toys. lawn darts, the hammer and peg thing, slip and slide, a woodburning kit, 'klick klax," a bow and arrows, and bb guns i don't specifically remember getting hurt with any of those. but a mere stick caused me to get 23 stitches. kids will find a way to hurt themselves
