ok, so i'm pretty poor, but i love smoking a big bowl and watching something i haven't seen i million times over. i have a somewhat decent collection of DVDs, but almost all of them that i have an interest in watching i've already seen 10+ times each. also i've somewhat recently gotten into anime, but even USED anime dvds are at least 10-15 bucks around here. i won't give a penny to blockbuster, don't have cable, and have run out of ideas. so i've decided to try to learn more about recent developments in the illegal downloading world. i'm getting rid of morpheus because all you can find on there is either junk or porn. so a buddy of mine came over the other night and we watched howl's moving castle (the first miyazaki film i've seen, it's based off of diana wynne jones's book of the same name) and i really liked it a lot. i decided to look into downloading movies and such without having to pay for it (i paid like 30 bucks to download the third season of it's always sunny in philadelphia) my sister uses livejournal a lot and gets into these groups that will provide links to stuff like this to download, and she gave me a link she found for princess mononoke (fucking sick....its wierd getting used to the talking animal-gods who don't move their mouths, though) but i wanted to learn to find things to download for myself, but i'm still pretty uneducated about it. i downloaded VCL or VLC or whatever its called....a media player that according to my more computer-savvy sister plays all legitimate video files regardless of type. i also downloaded bitcomet torrent downloader or whatever. so far i've managed to download a single song by placebo and the movie spirited away.... the simpsons movie isn't downloading at all, but i found two different links to it. so basically i'm finding it difficult to find good files to download (spirited away was ok, but there seem to be some problems with the file....doesn't play quite right in some places, but its good enough you can still watch it with only mild irritation) i honestly don't really know the first thing about how this works or why i can only sometimes get it to work properly. i mean people seem to talk about it like you can find anything and get it to work great....maybe i just dont understand it. my sister is in canterbury so we're on pretty different schedules (like a 5 hour time difference i think), so sometimes its hard to get ahold of her. she also said she doesnt really know how to tell me how to use the torrents shit without being able to actually show me. so does anyone here have any advice on how to get it to work properly? and could you educate me a bit about torrents in general since i know virtually nothing about what they are or how it works? and i'd also like suggestions to movies, television series and such to check out...
i'd also like advice for making a pirate costume to wear when i'm illegally downloading files. i do already have hooks for hands. both hands, thats right.
aaah nesta theres no such thing as poor, since money dont matter < only the things it provides. and sooo many things are free, including nowadays home entertainment... well the popcorn still costs money anyway i dont have the quality to simplify simple things, so instead of writing a book, ill leave it to this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0orIANZ6vh0 Also theres a great site to stream high quality (divX) films: http://www.movie-forumz.org/forumdisplay.php?f=5 ^ now keep in mind the direct stream and download means it doesnt last long < sites admins constantly delete stuff from the divx site, but movie forumz is constantly updated with new shit. enjoy =)
An alright site to search for torrent links is http://scrapetorrent.com/. Torrents with a large amount of leechers and a small amount of seeders aren't what you want. You want more seeders than leechers. I am guessing you know things about media files so I don't need to explain to you the difference in quality between divx, avi, mp4, H.264, etc etc. I know there is an OiNK replacement out there, but I forgot what it's called. Also the one person I know in real life who has invites to this OiNK replacement, won't give me one.
Hate to break it to you, but money does matter. As for the torrents... basically, torrents are files that allow you to download a certain file or set of files (music, movies, whatever) from many people at once. They are called "bittorrents" because the torrent program divides the files into many many tiny bits, and this allows users to share the load of the downloads. One user will download certain bits from the seeder (the person who has the whole file(s) already), another user will download other bits from the seeder, and then these two downloaders will SHARE the bits they have downloaded. Breaking it up like this allows for faster downloads. In order to download something using torrents, first you need a torrent program. I recommend BitTorrent. Then, you need to find a torrent for whatever you want to download. For this, I recommend www.torrents.to - use IsoHunt and MiniNova. Oftentimes torrents will stall in the middle of downloading. When this happens, close BitTorrent and resume the download. The more recent and the more popular the file you're trying to download, the more users there will be, the more reliable the download will be, and the faster the download will be. Let me know if you have any other questions.
For torrents, download something like Another Bittorrent Client or Azureus. Go to thepiratebay.org and search for what you want. Like newradicalface said, higher numbers of seeders are good. Read the comments before you download, too, because some of them require certain codecs. Another good program is eMule, but they have a lot of international stuff in different languages that you might not realize is french or something until after you download it, assuming you don't already speak french. It is a little more risky than thepiratebay, so use it if you can't find what you need there. Just move the files out of your download folder after they have completed. Another option is websites like videolemon.com, which offer links to streaming movies and tv shows on other websites. The quality is a little worse, but I think it is way more convenient and low risk. PM me if you have any more questions
mininova and the pirate bay are the only two sites you'll need. but some of the private ones such as dime a dozen have great seed to leech ratio. Torrents typically take a while to download. You want to find a file that has more seeders than leechers. If its movies your looking for make sure their in English and dont have sub titles, those can get annoying. Good luck you'll get the hang of it pretty soon. I went into it without knowing anything but i have the gist of it now, its a great way to get cds and movies.
If you need help with torrents I suggest you get utorrent. Utorrent.com Also get peerguardian (google it) it works on block lists so known IP's can't look at your data. You will have to pick a port (eg: 49152). That port is the port you list in utorrent, open up that port on your firewall. You will also have to the port on your router. To find out how to get into your router. Hold the 'windows' key and 'r' then type cmd. Then type 'ipconfig /all' and look for the default gateway. Go to your browser and type that in (just the numbers with the dots) It will take you to a password prompt. If you router settings are the default ones you can just google them, if not you should know them. When that is all done go to utorrent and there should be a green circle (not red or orange). Be sure to always run peerguardian when you d/l.
I have used PeerGuardian from the day I started torrenting. I used to route my traffic through the Tor Network also, but that slowed my dls down so much that I just said to hell with it.
Dude, your talking to the KING or downloading illegal stuff. PM me ill hook you up with everything ya need bro.
i've been download since most of the kids on this forum were in diapers.. and i must say utorrent + peerguardian + thepiratebay or mininova = success... also if you are looking for great rips.. just type "FXG" or "axxo" into either search engine and they will return top quality vids.. nothing new from "axxo" since he/she was busted awhile back
Step 1: Get rid of bitcommit Step 2: Download Utorrent Step 3: Go to http://www.scrapetorrent.com/ Step 4: Search for the movie you want, but make sure it has a good ammount of seeds (preferably over 200) and not to many leechers (a 1:2 ratio of seeders to leechers is average) Step 5: Click the file on scrapetorrent which links you to the site it's hosted at (seedpeer, thepiratesbay, btjunkie etc) then click on the "Download Torrent link. When your download window pops up click "Open With" and make it open with utorrent as a default. Rinse and repeat.
thanks everyone! i appreciate the help. and stayloose, thats exactly the kind of explanation i needed.... i'm figuring it out little by little, but i think everyone's responses will help me a lot. last night some people came over and i wanted to watch a couple episodes of it's always sunny in philadelphia, but who the fuck wants to crowd around a laptop? i realized how dumb it was to have downloaded that legally and paid almost as much as for dvds which would work in either my laptop (traveling) or in my dvd player for the big tv.....this was a problem, that i could only watch all this good shit on my computer. so i poked around online and looked at my tv and computer a bit, and found out they both have what i learned is called an "s-video" connections in the back.... went and got a 6' s-video cable at radioshack today....took a while bumbling around with settings to figure out how to get my monitor's image on the tv screen, and then i had to find out how to get it on both the tv and the computer simultaneously (can't read small type on the tv....only good for movies and such)
also if you have a stereo system or tv with an AV input then you should get a AV cable with a headphone jack on the other end.. so ya know.. the red/white connections on one end and a headphone jack on the other.. that way you can play the sound from your computer through either of those... i dont own a dvd player any more or have cable.. i just hook my laptop up to my tv and stereo and watch whatever i feel like watching
yeah i figured such a thing exists and i'd like to get that as well, but for now i'll deal with the laptop's speakers and just see the image on the TV....works well enough for what i need, and the s-video cable ran me a bit more than i anticipated, plus i just bought weed....well, you know how it goes sometimes.
The type of cable you will need to get audio through your tv is a 3.5mm to RCA connector. An example can be seen here http://www.radioshack.com/product/i....5mm+to+rca&kw=3.5mm+to+rca&parentPage=search. I prefer Azureus to uTorrent, even though uTorrent takes a lot less in terms of resources.
