So I'm not even totally clear on what it is or what it involves but if I wanted to get a hold of a show or movie or something, where would I look?
Get the torrent software from google (just type in torrent and you will find it no problem). Then check sites like thepiratebay.org and mininova.org and search their archives the torrent to download on your software application. If you can't find what you are looking for there there are other sites to look at to, but you can find those- pretty simple to do so. Last resort if you type the name of what your after and follow it up with the word 'torrent' in google, and you will get some relevant links. S'all easy, not that I do anything of the sort
if you have windows i suggest utorrent. if you use a mac download transmission you need one of these programs to actually download the torrent. now, you will need to find a website that has the file you want. i suggest looking at thepiratebay.org for it at the pirate bay you'll see a few columns, after you entered what you're looking for into the search. the ones on the right are named SE and LE. SE stands for seeders, this is how many people are currently uploading this torrent and SE is how many people are downloading. the more seeders there are the faster it will download download a file and open it with utorrent or transmission. it may take a few days for a movie to download but it all depends on how many seeders there are
I hope I'm not letting tons of viruses in... I had to download some player thing called Vuze and I can't make anything play. I'm soo confused!
follow my advice and you should be fine vuze should work fine. now go to thepiratebay or isohut or whatever site you wish and download a torrent
Demonoid is another fairly good torrent site. However they did have some downtime recently, so things might not be back 100% yet.
just be sure to always read the comments about whatever torrent you're trying to download... if there are any.. keep any eye on the file size of what you are downloading.. if the file size seems off, thats potentially a virus also.. and if its too good to be true (i.e. a DVD-rip of a movie that isn't even out in theaters yet), it probably is and thats probably a virus.. as long as you've got some common sense you should be able to navigate it virus/spyware free... there are a LOT less viruses on torrent websites as opposed to P2P programs like lime-wire, napster, whatever they use these days.. and if you're getting something from piratebay- check the uploader.. if there is a colored skull next to their name, they are legit and your not going to get a virus/spyware or any of that garbage.. for TV show torrents go here: eztv.it they have tons and tons of tv shows, and you're not going to get a virus from eztv EDIT: even after your downloads have finished, you should continue uploading (seeding) for a while, especially if you were pleased with what you downloaded.. torrent downloading wouldnt be possible without seeders, so give back to the community when you're done!
haha.. my demonoid share ratio is great.. yeah.. i've gotten a bit from them in the past Uploaded: 52.90 GB Downloaded: 162.59 GB Ratio: 0.33 (Updated once a day)
simple- utorrent.com isohunt.com vlc media player movies are easy. it is programs and games that are harder.
first get this............ http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php then go to this website: http://www.torrentpond.com/torrent_search.aspx in the search box type what your looking for press "go" then nothing will come up so then click on BTJunkie or Pirate Bay or Ishunt. Then look at your research results see lets say you see three things that you want that are the same thing. Well then look at Seed and Leech! if the Seed is high and leech if low get it! out of the three highest results.
