The yarns I used for this particular toque was Patons Canadiana and Bernat Berella 4, tension was about 18-20 sts to 4" using 5mm needles. with 16" lenth 5.5mm needles, cast on 84 sts. For 4-6 rows, k1 p1 ribbing. Knit for 25 rows. *Place 5 yarn markers evenly around. Decrease 1 at each marker, than knit the next row, moving marker.* Repeat *to* 7 or 8 more times. Switch to 3 dpn needles. With 4th dpn, start *K2tog, K1 to end of row. Knit 1 row.* Repeat *to* until down to 6-8 sts. Cut thread 6" long, sew through remaining stitches and pull closed. Incorporate scraps of colours to make patterns and stripes. The hats I've made (re: my signature) are in this pattern, although u can use your own pattern, it can be knit or crochet, any size and with any yarn you wish.
thanks I love working with circular needles... If I can save a step in sewing my knits, I'm all over it...
If you only know how to knit scarves, I thought I'd share an UNBELIEVABLY easy way to knit a hat, and so long that you know how to knit a scarf, then your 90% there. Take your yarn and the right sized needles, cast on enough stitches to make a scarf roughly 8" to 10" wide. Knit the pattern so the length comfortably wraps around your head, allowing it to be a bit snug. Bind/cast off. Sew the 'width' (short) ends together so you have a 'tube' shape. Then, form one open end so it evenly makes a cross or X shape, and sew it up. (diagram below) sew [................................] to..this [................................] thisend [................................] end You now have just made a toque out of an easy scarf pattern! For a quick knit, knit 3 strands together on thicker needles!
Both patterns seem great and easy! It's hard finding patterns for circular needles, I don't think many people use them. Or maybe not many people use them because there aren't enough patterns? Who knows?
