Deep Purple was sort of progressive rock in the 60's then turning more heavy metal, yet they had an infleunce on the early progressive rock bands. Especially Uriah Heep, they are definately of the infleunce of Deep Purple.

I agree a little with you, Led Zeppelin were progressive when they started in the 60's, but I don't agree that they are progressive rock, more so they would be a progressive type of heavy blues rock. Their first album was released in the first half of 1969 and in don't you notice how heavy metal bands of the 70's like Aerosmith, Nazareth, Montrose etc. have released music in the early and mid 70's that is heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin I.

Grand Funk Railroad isn't porgressive rock. Perhaps just their song "Closer To Home/I'm Your Captain". But they are heavy metal (70's).

Grand Funk Railroad was a heavy metal band that had a funk/soul style, very much blues rock.
