Syd Barrett must be pretty famous. At every gig I do someone comes up to me and says "You look like Syd Barrett".

    Worship Kevin Ayers instead.

    who is kevin ayers???

    just kidding.

every (well maybe not every) floyd fan knows who syd is... especially if they listen to wish you were here....

Id agree with more people knowing who syd barrett is than kevin ayers. most of em probably havent even heard of the soft machine.

I prefer Roger Waters. he is a much better lyricist. the most serious and sorrowful pink floyd music was done in the 70's.

Do you people jerk off to pics of syd barrett. and you pick the album most likely to not get picked by everyone else. how elitest. uh i think the song syd barrett wrote as a kid that didnt even get released was the best one cuz no one else can think of it.

In the 1970's the sound became more sorrowful and reflective.

I know what you mean. I only know a few people who know about Syd. And most of them only know about him because I played some albums for them.

    For the record...

I've only ever met one other person who knew who Syd was, but he had never heard The Piper at the Gates of Dawn or any of Syd's solo work.

Gilmour and Waters could barely come up with a decent melody.. compared to the melodically rich early Pink Floyd, the later stuff just sounds like tuneless droning. I've always found Waters to be an exceptionally overrated lyricist, much too trite yet simultaneously heavy-handed and whiny.. sorta like that 'deep' kid in 8th grade who's smoked weed once and writes poetry. Syd was at least imaginative, even if you couldn't relate to songs about bikes and the I-ching and vegetable men.

What's your problem, buddy? I happen to think that Syd Barrett is the most original artist I've ever heard. I don't understand why you say that some stoner saying he likes Syd Barrett pisses you off. Do you have some sort of mental imbalance?
