I got my tongue pierced on Monday, didn't hurt much at all and I can still talk fine. My tongue is swollen though and eating is rather difficult. How long until the swelling goes down and makes it easier to eat? Also I was told to just use Listerine about three times a day to clean it, I was told by a friend that wasn't good for cleaning piercings, is that true?
nope usually mouthwash hurts like hell, how long the swelling lasts depends on your body but usually the worst is past after three days or so, though for me the second time I pierced it was easy and it didn't swell that much
FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCK listerine. You should NEVER put anything containing alcohol on any piercing. Use salt water. 1/8th teaspoon of sea salt in a cup of warm water'll get you mighty good. Like with any kind of swelling, ice helps a LOT. You just gotta wait it out.
amber colored listerine is the shit to use..my tongue was completely down to size after a couple weeks ..and i worked at a tattoo shop for a fat minute, and that's what we told customers to do as well..
Your tongue should be down to size in less than a week. It won't be healed for a month or so, but it should feel healed in a week. Sounds like the shop you worked in was misinformed. Listerine has tons of alcohol in it. Alcohol kills living tissue which makes it good for sterilizing, but not good for trying to heal new piercings. Piercings if kept clean, don't need to be sterilized. Just gargle with salt water. use noniodized sea salt
I've been using Listerine and it doesn't really hurt at all more than usual and I think I'd prefer the taste of Listerine to salt water, anything too salty to me is horrible. Swelling is already down too, just a tiny bit larger than normal. I can almost eat fine now too. So after a week (tomorrow) it should be mostly healed. Surprised it healed as quickly as it has.
Amen, brother. http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Salt_Soaks Alcohol is TERRIBLE for piercings. It'll take WAY longer for it to ACTUALLY heal if you use alcohol. Salt has been used for THOUSANDS of years to disinfect and heal. H2Ocean is also a good route if you don't know uh.. how to measure 1/8th teaspoon.
I don't want to pay $10 for a thing of salt water in a can, that's pretty much free. How often should I use salt water?
Twice a day oughta do the trick. Just throw it in there after you brush yr teeth and swish around for a minute or so.
i really wanted to get my tounge pierced and i was told that the hole never heals completely so it's an open wound and that all the bacteria and stuff from your mouth can get in there and that it could lead to brain and throat cancer. i still want my tounge pierced. but i think finding that out has had quite an impact on whether i will or not. now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that i know this for a fact or that it's 100% true. this is just something i heard from a dentist. i should probably do some more research on it, just so i can get the story straight. just throwing that out there. thought it was kind of interesting. later guys =]]
It completely healed fine now. Just used salt water and listerine every day for the first two and a half weeks.
