My last grandparent died recently but before he went he mailed me a book that he thought was a good read if you're in California, Days of the Tong Wars by C.Y. Lee, old ragged paperback.

Durring the california gold rush within the chinese community there were a ton of rival organized crime groups called Tongs, fighting tong members were called hatchet men and aparently ate wildcat meat. Whenever tongs would get angry at each other for whatever they would declare a war upon the other tong, they would have a set place and time and used knarly big ass swords, battle axes, hatchets, spears, etc... which ever tong killed the most when the war was over was the winner and afterwards the tong's would settle their shit and party, wierd far out stuff it's like mafia slapped with old west with an asian slant, and there were slave girls.

    I like it.
