JUNE 27th: 2002 - "Who bows out ..... - with a bang?" One day before the scheduled first show of The Who's 2002 US tour, bass player John Entwistle, died aged 57 in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Entwistle had gone to bed that night with a stripper, who woke at 10am to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive. JUNE 27th: 1844 - "Smith exits ..... with a barrage of bangs" Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon church, was murdered by an armed mob in Carthage, Illinois. Men with blackened faces stormed Carthage Jail Smith fired three shots from a pepper-box pistol that his friend, Cyrus Wheelock, had lent him, wounding three men,before he sprang for the window. He was shot multiple times before falling out the window, crying, "Oh Lord my God!" He died shortly after hitting the ground, but was shot several more times before the mob dispersed. Fourteen elderly contestants paraded on stage and described the events they survived during the holocaust, organizers stated it was a celebration of life and critics stated it made light of a solemn and serious event. Rotimi Adebari (born 1964 in Okeodan, Ogun State) is a Nigerian-born Irish politician who came to Ireland in 2000 as an asylum seeker from Nigeria. He became involved in local politics in 2004 and received a Master's degree from Dublin City University. I thought this was a joke! I can see the need to deal with the reality of having been through something so tragic. But this seems so wrong. However, I am not a Holocaust survivor so I don't understand the emotions involved. If there are those who wish to participate and have some happiness from it, maybe I shouldn't be that quick to judge.
I was unsure myself until I cross referenced/checked Wiki - and YES, until one has walked in the shoes of a.n.other. one never really knows, and if this gives any kind of solace to a survivor, then one cannot/should not, make a judgement call on such

JUNE 29th: 1985 " Musical Legends combine" David Bowie and Mick Jagger recorded a version of the Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 1964 hit 'Dancing In The Street' for the forthcoming Live Aid fundraising event. The single went on to become a No.1 UK hit. The original plan was to perform a track together live, with Bowie performing at Wembley Stadium and Jagger at John F. Kennedy Stadium, until it was realised that the satellite link-up would cause a half-second delay that would make this impossible unless either Bowie or Jagger mimed their contribution, something neither artist was willing to do. JUNE 30th: 1994 " Harding stripped of title" In January 1994, Harding became embroiled in controversy when her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, orchestrated an attack on her fellow U.S. skating rival Nancy Kerrigan. Both women then competed in the February 1994 Winter Olympics, where Kerrigan won the silver medal and Harding finished eighth. On March 16, 1994, Harding accepted a plea bargain in which she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to hinder prosecution. As a result of her involvement in the aftermath of the assault on Kerrigan, the United States Figure Skating Association banned her for life on June 30th, 1994. The investigation by the USFSA decided Harding knew about the attack before it happened and displayed "a clear disregard for fairness, good sportsmanship and ethical behavior."
