When making hash joints, most of my mates use cigarettes but I prefer to use rolling tobacco for various reasons; - The joint takes longer to burn and gets you gradually stoned, - The high is more of a sedative kind and seems to last longer, - I can hold deep tokes in for a long time without the harshness of unfiltered cigarette smoke making me wanna cough, - I can take a decent deep toke and it doesn't look like half the spliff's dissappeared with a sideburn, - You can put the tiniest bit of tobacco in the set-up and sprinkle your hash in, and it'll burn well. My mates reckon smoking tobacco joints is dirty, but surely smoking chemicals which are supposed to be filtered before they reach your lungs is dirtier. I've noticed the high with cigarette-spliffs is basically instant and gives me more of a hyperactive kind of stonedness rather than monging out in a chair to some music. Who use what kind of tobacco in their spliffs and why? Anyone else compared the difference in high?
I usually as a rule of thumb use cigs (but only good brands: marlboro, luckys, camel etc) if I'm smoking hash or a cocktail but for weed I like to use Drum Blue or American Spirit tobacco. Sometimes if I can't be arsed a little piece of pollen by itself in a pipe is lovely though, great flavour...
rolling tobacco and cigarette tobacco are still just different types of cigarette tobacco. its the same stuff, really, just packaged differently. rolling tobacco is really not much different, its just fresher and moister. its no better for you at all, and its unfiltered just like if you used the tobacco from cigarettes. neither one is better or worse for you, really. its simply a matter of personal taste. myself...i would usually use the tobacco from a cigarette...american pall malls, gualoise blondes, camel milds, dunhills, players lights. the rolling tobacco you get here in the states is generally bottom of the barrel and actually lower quality than tailor mades, though if you look hard enough you can find good stuff like american spirit (and i hear gualoise makes rolling tobacco, too) and bali shag is decent.... overall though i rarely put tobacco in my joints, and when it comes to hash i burn it by itself in a pipe instead of a joint. i can't hold in hits of tobacco or i get all gross and dizzy. pot is where its at. i cant remember the last time i mixed pot with tobacco. i find pot mixed with crushed coca leaf to be a MUCH better tasting and better feeling mixture.
On the whole in europe the rolling tobacco contains a lot less chemicals (hence if you're smoking a cig it will go out a lot if you don't keep puffing it) and it's fairly easy to find additive free stuff in most mid sized tobacconists
yes, and in the US additive free tobacco is commonly smoked as well (winston and american spirit, and many rolling tobaccos) in fact, all rolling tobacco has a tendency to go out occasionally. it depends on the quality of the tobacco, the moisture of the tobacco, the cut of the tobacco, how the cigarette is rolled, and such....not simply if there are "additives." in fact, brown and williamson, producers of american pall malls, are among the most maligned companies when it comes to additives, but pall malls are the ONLY cigarette other than american spirits that i've EVER seen go out on its own without being put out! the fact is there are tons of "chemicals" that make up tobacco leaves naturally, and the heat from combustion causes a number of chemical changes to occur -again, naturally- producing carcinogenic and other dangerous substances. things such as arsenic and formaldehyde are not actually ADDED to cigarettes, they are PRODUCED by burning tobacco. this isnt to say that there aren't companies that do add various things to their tobacco (most often things which help aid in absorbing the nicotine or which flavor the tobacco) and in fact it is relatively common. but i've seen a few publications who printed up charts declaring the levels of various dangerous chemicals found in the smoke of various brands of tobacco, and the additive-free brands really didnt fair any better than their additive laden counterparts. i've smoked many european cigarettes, canadian cigarettes, american cigarettes, in all sorts of fashions....unfiltered (lucky strikes were my first cigarette), filtered, turkish tobacco blends, 100% turkish cigarettes, additive free cigarettes, menthol, vanilla, clove, and other flavored smokes, rolling tobacco....various sizes of cigarettes and sizes of filters....lights, full flavored.... and i can definitely say when i smoked hand rolled cigarettes on the regular to save money, i felt exactly the same as if i were smoking packs of unfiltered cigarettes. it was no better. i used to smoke winstons and american spirits....but i wasn't any healthier, it wasn't any better for me. quite simply tobacco is a dangerous, poisonous product whether its pleasurable or not. with or without "additives" cigarettes will destroy your respiratory health. i believe both europe and north america is in something of a chemophobic phase...."don't smoke THAT cigarette! its got chemicals in it! additive free cigarettes will make your lungs squeaky clean!" seriously, look as hard as you can. you wont find any medical journals indicating that its even REMOTELY possible that "additive free" tobacco is generally safer than any other cigarette. certainly some additives are worse than others, but going additive free doesnt constitute any sort of healthy choice. you still cough up brown shit in the mornings, and if you're unlikely you cough up blood. no hand rolled or additive free cigarettes ever made me feel less like shit than any other cigarettes, it was all just a matter of flavor. but my health declined so much i had to do SOMETHING...now i will occasionally smoke cigarettes, but am more likely to smoke a quality cigar a day, or good pipe tobacco (dunhill, mclellands)....yes, this smoke is just as carcinogenic and bad for the body as cigarettes, and contains all the same nastiness, but i HAVE noticed a significant increase in respiratory comfort now that i'm primarily smoking tobacco that provides nicotine without needing to inhale 1st hand smoke. this doesnt make it a healthy choice over cigarettes, it just doesnt make me wheeze when i walk up the stairs, and it tastes and smells better besides. but dont feed me crap about differences between rolling tobacco and cigarettes....its all terrible for you, and rolling tobacco (even if its additive free) is going to be worse for you than FILTERED tailor made cigarettes. if you're inhaling unfiltered cigarette tobacco of any kind its awful for you. the majority of toxic substances found in tobacco smoke comes from burning tobacco, not from "chemicals" (consider how many chemicals make up fruits, vegetables, nuts, meat, beverages, and so on....not all of them are exactly good for you. in fact, there are poisonous substances in trace amounts in the pits of many fruits such as peaches and cherries and appleseeds) if you're going to mix tobacco with your pot, you might as well choose whatever tastes the best and is most convenient to you. but using drum instead of camel isn't going to make it any healthier.
Yes I know this. I wasn't 'feeding you crap', I know it's all bad. TBH smoking rollups is on the whole better as, additives & whatever aside, no-one I know makes a rollie as fat as a tailor made. I can smoke 20 rollies with filters or 20 filtertips in a day and will feel no different but with the rollies I've indesputably put less shite in my body. Um that's the point I was making, never said it was any healthier. If you're smoking hash you'd want to use Camel or something because the tobacco burns a lot hotter and hash gets a lot oilier when smoked than weed so using dryer, harsher tobacco is nicer for hash. The flavour of weed with a little bit of hand rolling tobacco is nicer IMO that's why I stated the differences. I prefer cigs for hash, baccy for grass Get me now?
the way i learned to roll hash joints - it´s easier to use manufacture cigarettes. the tip is torn off the cig to later save for a filter/tip when rolling. as far as my personal preference, i like roll-your-own tobacco better because it isnt as harsh-tasting as regular cigarettes are. the quick-acting head buzz that comes from smoking cigarettes happens for a reason. with roll-your-own, it doenst really happen that fast. although, i will be in amsterdam in a couple of weeks and i do plan on using regular cigarette tobacco at times for smoking hash. moreso out of custom (because of friends i´ll be with), but i also plan to use rolled tobacco, as well as a pipe for smoking straight hash. it´s been so long since i´ve smoked a hash joint that i really dont even know the difference anymore. cant wait to get back into it again!
Nesta - you say all this, tell people to stop feeding you with crap (when you don't HAVE to eat it) and go into great detail explaining the ins and outs of a cat's arse without offering any ideas towards the difference in high between cigarettes and rolling tobacco. For the record, Cadmium, Lead and Benzene are added chemicals, they aren't found naturally; and one is used to make pesticides. And only a complete fuckwit thinks you're doing your lungs the same amount of damage by smoking a rollie and smoking unfiltered cigarette tobacco; the latter will do you a shitload more damage. The harshness of a toke more or less speaks for itself, compared to that of a rollie.
I always use rolling baccy, Golden Virgina to be exact. I dont like rolling with cigarette tobacco is probably my main reason, its too flakey and doesnt roll properly, bits always fall out the end and generally i just dont like rolling with it, but also as you say, it burns faster and if you take a fat toke your spliffs gone with the sideburn.
Man, practice is the key. I used to get this trouble with flakey cigarette tobacco falling out when rolling, but with practice it becomes a piece of piss (easy). Admittedly, rolling with Golden V is a hell of a lot easier though.
As of recent, I have a new favoured tobacco brand. It is no longer Golden Virginia. OH NO. This tobacco makes much finer spliffs and is slightly on the dry side for easy burning (i.e. no blockages like Golden V could sometimes cause). It is now the (halfzware shag) DRUM! This stuff puts hairs on your arse...
Lol, I wouldn't buy menthol cigs to stop scrounging little bastards asking for one; I'd just say 'FUCK OFF'. Being assertive can go a long way!
Halfzware shag(half full taste) DRUM is so definitely the best. Although, the smell of Old Holborn(I think thats the name) tobacco is luuurrlvly. DRUM Gold I dont like, nor I am very fond of Golden Virginia. As long as theres a glass piece around, I will never even smoke a spliff. I'm just like that. Not rolled one in a while (although had a blunt a few weeks ago), but its obv much better/easier to roll with baccy.
Well said; Drum Gold just doesn't cut the mustard. It's too similar to Golden V. Old Holborn, oh, memories of only having enough to buy that shit on a comedown from a LOT of E the night before.. it did us proud, though! And, long live the glass impliments (including a small Spanish glass pipe used by myself and friends). Whoop whoop!
Drum Blue definately! Tried the gold once and never again, it tasted weird. Same with golden Virginia. My friends all use ripped up fags but i definately prefer the rolling tobacco. Dont really know if there is a difference in high between the fags and the rolling because they all smoke soapbar and im usually grass (Im terribly snobbish when it comes to that). The benefits of the rolling tobacco I find is that its possible to roll a joint while its blowing a gale cause it sticks together. Also dont like the idea that a cigarette is a carefully balanced chemical equation for it burning through the filter, so if you rip it off all sorts of extra nasty stuff is going to be made. That and rolling tobacco tastes so much better and smoother.
