As you all knew, Nick (wiufcoaltp) and me were moderating the Planet Gong forum as nick_and_laety - we still haven't registered, but we will soon, and maybe find out what's gonna happen with our forum... I don't know when it will come back (if it does), but in the meantime, I guess we'll just have to use to music forum to post our crazy threads!

We'll let you know about what's happening -

Even if Gong was one of the 2 most popular french prog band ... 99,995 % of americans don't know them!

Everybody had to own at least their magic trilogy!

I can't imagine so many people no knowing them... I grew up in a priviledged area I guess!!

But Planet Gong isn't only to talk about Gong.

BTW my boyfriend's dad (who was American) knew Gong in the 70's and not because he went to Europe.

I got introduced to Gong from an ex boyfriend. I only familliar with what he had in his collection (You and Angels Egg), and a few other scatterd songs heard on mp3.
I've been thinking about picking up some of their stuff, but at a loss of where to start (the same withThe Soft Machine.)

Well if she gets Angel's Egg, she should also get Flying Teapot and You - the whole Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy :)

Yeah, I'll probably end up owning these one day.
Anyone have an opinion on the release Gazeuse?

Has anyone had the privilege to see them live?

i never listen to Gazeuse album. I listen the previous one, "Shamal" and it was a good album but with just 2-3 good tunes ...

To my advice the band lost what make them great after "You" (74), when David Aellen and Steve Hillage leave the band.

But the 70's good spirit remains probably for 2 or 3 albums.
All i know is that "Gazeuse!"(76) is more "Jazzy" oriented and had less good critics by rock critics than the radio-gnome trilogy...

Personnaly i don't want to listen one of their album of the 80's...
