    Time

    Time, why you punish me?
Like a wave crashing into the shore,

    You wash away... my... dreams.
    Time, why you walk away?
Like a friend with somewhere to go,

    You left me cryin'.
Can you teach me 'bout tomorrow,

And all the pain and sorrow, runnin' free?
    'Cause tomorrow's just another day,

And I don't believe in time...
    Time... I don't understand.
    Children killin' in the street,

Dyin' ...for the color of a rag.
Time, take their red and blue.
    Wash them in the ocean...

Make them clean maybe mothers won't cry tonight.
Can you teach me 'bout tomorrow,
And all the pain and sorrow, runnin' free?
    'Cause tomorrow's just another day,

    And I don't believe in...
Time is wastin', time is walking.
You ain't no friend of mine.
    I don't know where I'm going.
I think I'm out of my mind...

    Thinkin' about time.
And if I die tomorrow, yeah,

Just lay me down to sleep.
Time is wastin', time is walking.
You ain't no friend of mine.
    I don't know where I'm going.
I think I'm out of my mind,

    Thinkin' about time.
Time, you left me standin' there,
Like a tree growin' all alone.
The wind just stripped me bare,

    Stripped me bare.
Time, the past has come and gone.
    The future's far away.
Well, now only lasts for one second,

    One second.
Can you teach me 'bout tomorrow,
And all the pain and sorrow, runnin' free?
    'Cause tomorrow's just another day,

    And I don't believe in...
Time is wastin' time is walking.
You ain't no friend of mine.
    I don't know where I'm going.
I think I'm out of my mind.
Walkin', wastin', you ain't no friend of mine.
I don't know where I'm goin', lost, no, no, no.
Time without courage and time without fear is just wasted.

This is another example of extreme contextual vagueness that is perfect for my collection of poems exactly the way it is, including his "mushmouth" accent and blues sound emphasizing the fact he is crying into what Asians call the "Great Void" and "Mother of All". Expressing sorrow is one of the hardest things to do in our poetry, and Hootie shows why because, as Taoists say, its the simple shit that always gets you. The nonlinear temporal dynamics hidden in those lyrics, written by five people, are rather intense, but resemble the story of Goldilocks and a toddler kicking something in frustration.

I know a lot of musicians who think they are word-smiths, but I am the mathematician who comprehends even gibberish. Imagine in his song if time answered him back, what would it say? Stop blaming me for all your fucking problems, would be my guess. According to the mathematics, his song represents one of four rudimentary ways to talk to time itself as if it where the mother of all. Each "subtype" must transform into the others, and this poem could easily become Hootie howling at the moon! Among the controversial issues surrounding this are whether "perfect timing" exists and whether it is really possible to laugh and cry at the same time. Quantum mechanics says "What was the question?" My book describes how to make measurements and settle the issue once and for all, explaining the quantum observer effect and why Relativity falls apart, of course, in the most parsimonious fashion possible in order to drive academics up the fucking wall.
