During recent years, the differences and disagreements between the Democrats and the Republicans have become open warfare; the gap between the two parties seems to grow by the day, if not the hour.

Then again, look at how much disagreement and discord is taking place between members of the SAME party.

I cannot help but wonder what the United States would be like if we were a "one-party nation"......would this even be possible?

I used to think that, perhaps, this MIGHT help to ease the volatile tensions between the two parties, but, then again, given
the heated "debates" among members of the SAME party.......well, I still cannot be sure.

I've long believed that people can disagree, and sTRONGLY disagree, but STILL remain civil.

Sadly, we have not seen much evidence of civility (or maturity) on Capitol Hill, in recent years.

I will admit I know little about politics; but what I DO know is that Capitol Hill tactics are now often more atkin to the juvenile behavior one might encounter in a preschool sandbox......

I get your sentiment, but one party is not a democracy. It would be more like fascism.

You could just get rid of parties and employ direct democracy of the people, by the people, for the ... Well you know.

It would be much harder for corporations and special interests to influence every citizen, and citizens would be more likely to hold them to account.

Social networking helps, allowing more voices to be heard, but when the corps and billionaires own the social networks, it's futile!

That is a good point to bring up; put that way, I totally agree.

It is just that, with so much juvenile bickering going on these days on Capitol Hill, you often cannot help but wonder: "Is there a BETTER way?"

Our democracy is hurtling towards a cliff, women’s rights being stripped away, voter suppression laws, book bannings, we better find a different way

....so much we are all losing, almost on a day-to-day basis.

Clearly, the average American has lost his/her right to once again live "normal" lives, lives where they did not live in continual fear of being shot down by a crazed individual as soon as they step out of their door.

When we accept metal detectors at schools and armed guards at houses of worship, SOMETHING has to be SERIOUSLY wrong.

"Political correctness" has robbed the "average American" the right to voice his own honest opinion and views; today, one has to very VERY prudent as to what they say, for fear of offending someone.

Even saying "Merry Christmas" is now no longer politically correct.

Supposedly, our politicians and lawmakers are working for US; IMHO, all they are really doing is arguing, disagreeing, and throwing tantrums like overgrown, spoiled children, making obscene salaries, and, lacking backbone, are almost giving a "green light" to those who want to do us harm.

    Pathetic.....and VERY sobering.......

I agree with that except for the politically correct part. Saying merry Xmas is not politically incorrect and you can honestly express your feelings but so can people who find those thoughts offensive

    Well said.

It is good you brought up ".......a government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, and for the PEOPLE........"

One cannot help but wonder what our "Founding Fathers", if they could visit 2023 for a day, would make of all the current political shenanigans in Washington (and elsewhere) today.

When I attended school in the 60's and early 70's, we were taught history, and there was no heated flak over what SHOULD be TAUGHT, and what should NOT.

I think American History is MOST important, as well as the history of our ancestors.

But given that history is such a volatile subject these days, I'm all for NOT teaching ANY sort of history in schools; I'd much rather see students study history at HOME, under parental supervision.

Indeed, many terrible things happened to too many people in our country in the past, but, it HAPPENED (sadly) and we cannot CHANGE history

However, in many instances, we can see the past and LEARN from it, and use examples of past injustices to build a better future for all, regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or orientation.......

Many think that's what we've had for quite a long time now.

They aren't fooled by political theatre.

You used a most appropriate word, "theatre".

Virtually every day now (sadly), we have yet to suffer through another asinine, immature, melodramatic installment of the latest Capitol Hill soap opera, "As The Capitol Turns".:(

The level of immaturity and lack of protocal by so-called "adults" is truly sad, especially that our politicians represent ALL of us citizens.:(

"Sesame Street" was, by far, a MATURE show, compared to the huge playpen known as Capitol Hill........and a LOT of more fun to watch!:)

Both parties do agree on the primary goal of enriching themselves and enriching the elite class but there are real differences. Women and minorities have actually lost rights at the hands of the gop, a party currently looking to ban books in schools as if reading is the problem

Pornography should be banned. Children are not adults.

That’s patently false. Many people want books removed because they’re bigots who are anti lgbqt

Passages that describe sucking dick is pornography.

And reading it to children should be jailable.

Reporting it to 18 year old adults in University is allowable. Teaching it to 6 year olds is not.

So you’re saying teachers are reading passages about sucking dick to 6 year olds? Did this come from Fox or OAN?

I hate to say this, but what you say, is sadly, all too true.

I was raised that ALL of us.....and that does mean ALL.....were created EQUAL........try telling that to the mega-rich, arrogant, self-righteous, pompous, hypocritical morons who now inhabit Capitol Hill........
