I just went to goodwill an local thrift store. and I got 5 shirts for my son, 3 pairs of pants, one swim truck, and one dress, one pair of oshkosh overalls, and 3 other outfits for my daughter, plus an dress shirt (60s like), and dress pants for my fiance all for $30. You could never get that much clothes for that much at an department store. and I felt good buying 2nd hand. It was funny because many of my old friends that I no longer hang out with were always ashamed of how much I love to buy clothes at thrift stores. But to hell with that, I got almost brand new clothes at goodwill for cheap. and I am proud of it. It is definitely worth it, and I feel like I contributed to the whole idea of barter and trade a tiny bit, just by getting clothes that someone used.

I guess I'm not easily embarrassed. Clothes are so gently used these days, who minds?

I got some shirts from there, but I mostly go for electronics or a piece of furniture, etc.

Last time I was at goodwill I saw a crossdresser showing some clothes to an old lady. He held up a sweater to his chest and she said "Yes, that's a lovely color for you". I thought maybe it was his grandma, or something.

I was getting in my truck outside and I saw him come out alone with his bag and he walked down the street. I wondered if that old lady knew he was a guy just then. lol
She was being sweet and helpful just as if he were a real woman.

He was like 6' 6'' in his heels with a denim mini skirt and a halter top, and an obvious wig.
And he was not passable at all. She had to be thinking -hmm, i wonder.

    Nice lady.

Oh yeah, thrift stores are the best, we don't have goodwill up here any more and I've boycotted Salvation Army Stores since they jacked their prices up.

Our Lions club has a great store and you can buy all the clothes you can fit in a plastic shopping bag for $5 on Welfare day.

So I go there a lot.

I get a lot of good kitchen gear there, including a storage hutch for some of my food-stuffs. I also get patterns, fabric remnants, yarn, crochet cotton and things to numerous to mention on here.

Our Food Bank has a clothes rack and a couple of boxes too so I even get stuff there.

Gotta get camping gear when it starts coming in near winter, I'm off on a Dodge Caravan adventure come Spring. Going to do a test run this fall.

    Take Care

Our Goodwill is really high for secondhand, in my opinion. I like yard sales.

During the school year I live in Chicago, there are the best thrift stores in the city. Especially for things such as dishwear and books. The clothes are good too, better than anything in the suburbs.

I think that almost every piece of clothing i own is secondhand. I get them from friends, parents of friends, thrift stores, goodwill, garage sales and the food bank. I love it. Some people at my school think that its wierd and gross to wear other peoples clothes, but I think its a great way to contribute to the break down of big business.
Also, my bunk bed, desk, dresser, fan, suitcase, etc. are from thrift stores and such. They are cheap and still in descent condition. I love it! =)

Our Goodwill got too pricey so now we go to the Nazarene's Hope store or to the Salvation Army! I love it! It is like treasure hunting. You never know what wonderful old thing is just waiting in there for you. :)

I got my pants from an goodwill just the other day. LOve them!!! I just love buying 2nd hand clothes.

  11. Almost all of my clothes are second hand or gifts. If you shop very carefully in thrift shops you can get some really class stuff. I would rather pay 10 euros for something used that is very good quality than 10 euros for some piece of shit that isn't going to last any time at all. And don't get me started on books! Everyone should at least have a look in their local thrift shop. I love them. You can find almost anything.

I know I have found really old books that I can not find anywhere else at the thrift stores. and I have to agree, in the last 2 years I have only bought one brand new pair of jeans, and it fell apart in just 2 weeks, where is my thrift store ones, are still going.

I love them. You can find so many cool things, even antiques.

Up here, the Bibles for Missions is the best buy, especially for older stuff, that's where I look for stove parts and old books.

Clothes are good too, some stuff needs a wash though-that stale smell or a stain. I've gotten ALL my velvet suits in thrift stores except one blazer I got from Sears eons ago.

Only thing I buy new is underpants!;)

About time to look for sneakers and a few kitchen things. I'll have to put that on my to do list for this week:)

we dont hve goodwills or salvation army thrift shops around my mountains... however the church thrift shops are awesome! sometimes a dollar a bag sale which is so cool! i stuff that thing full! then there are second hand shops at the animal shelters. you can get furniture, household stuff, clothes, sooooo much yarn. i never buy yarn from anywhere else. plus the vintage household stuff is so cool, you would never find it anywhere else. its cheaper than walmart and you arent buying more crap from china. all the money goes to good causes! save the animals and help out your local community. i love thrift shopping :)

I've gotten to the point where I cannot even stomach going into a store and buying brand new clothes. It makes me all too aware that we live in a society based on consumption and waste.

Thrift store shopping is so much more fun. I think it cultivates a better sense of style than buying brand new clothes that follow current trends. Anyone can walk into a trendy little boutique and walk out with several stylish outfits, but it takes effort and creativity to comb through racks of secondhand clothes and put together outfits that suit your personal style.

My girlfriends and I have a clothing swap every few months, so we end up wearing each others' wardrobes. Its fun :)
