behold the parsnip. the rutabaga. the ruffled green beauty that is kale, and the succulent stalk of asparagus! where is the joy in eating green beans, mushy peas, and flavorless carrots from a can? let this thread celebrate our favorite fresh vegetables, so underappreciated! for example, i love parsnips. in the fall and winter i roast them with carrots and apples, or put them in stews. in the spring, the last of these over-wintered roots go into stir-fries with fresh asian greens from the CSA. now you sing the praises of your favorite veggie!
I love fiddleheads too. I love all kinds of fresh veggies. I can't handle how people actually eat vegetables out of can. Blech. I just got back from the farmer's market where I got some fresh beets (with their greens of course).
fiddleheads are ferns, picked right after they come up, just before they uncurl into fronds. they taste sort of like asparagus. anybody ever get a share in CSA? we should be getting some mizuma, spinach, radishes, and asian greens tomorrow, and of course, more lettuce. mmmm, salad!
mmm... veggies... I've a whole lot of them growing in my garden this year, just tons... peas, tomatoes, lettus, onions, beans... you name it, I likely have it growing! I can't wait until they're ripe enough to pick...
It's grilling season, folks. I love asparagus, squash (yellow and zuccini), and eggplant with a little olive oil, S&P, and GRILLED. YUM!! Anyone else have some good grilling recipe favorites?
kohl rabi~crunchy green bulbous growth. so tasty and swiss chard!! i have a bunch of little chardlings poking their first leaves out of the earth. i cant wait till they're big enough to steam.
