-I would like to hear other's thoughts about gay marriage. Do you think it is right or wrong? What are your top three reasons for the side you agree with?

-Also, do you believe that gay couples should adopt children? Please provide your top three points of why you believe your side is correct.

Gay marriage, not right for me, but clearly right for others. I have one main reason, which is that I accept gay people as they are, and see no reason to judge that. It is their life, and their being gay does me absolutely no harm. Reason 2: Any gay marriage deserves the same respect as any straight one, or else it becomes a case of discrimination.
Reason 3: There are too many sad people due to others pressuring and trying to control them. If a gay marriage puts two more smiles out there, :).

Gays should adopt, or else heteros should not be allowed to.
There are too many orphans, and a loving gay home is just as healthy as a loving straight home.
    2. I feel that the sexuality of the child will not be changed by 'gay' parents.
    3. It might stop the slanderous misinformation spewed forth copiously alleging some connection between gays and pedophiles. There are many times more straight pedophiles, and far more girls are abused than boys, period.

Gay marriage isn't right or wrong, as straight marriage isn't right or wrong.

1)Straight marriage is a common practice in our culture to bind two individuals who love each other. Gay marriage is the same.
    2) The argument to whether the acts of homosexuality and the symbolic binding in gay marriage is 'against' nature is absurd. Two individuals loving each other isn't sending shockwaves into the essence of the universe, creating some temporal warp in space-time. It's really okay. If you don't agree with it, that is your opinion.
3)People are entitled to live their lives as they wish, so long as it does not compromise the inalienable rights of others. "Not agreeing" with something isn't compromising a right. This is Constitutionally correct.

    Gay adoption is fine too.
    1) Ever see the Pen & Teller episode about that? Well, despite attacks that gay parents provide an inadaquet environment for raising children, the facts have been proven contrary. Gay parents are just like all parents. Some are good and some are not. (The show proved that point with examples)
2)Sexual gender of parents does not influence how well children are raised nor the sexual preference of the children. The only 'threat' in such a case comes from biased and arrogant harrassment outside the gay community.
    3) It would be a different situation. There is no one right way to live. It would be an alternative, with potential just as great straight parents.

In Florida, there are severe restrictions on homosexual couples adopting. It pisses me off, I'm not gay, but I'm sure that gays can raise kids just as well as hetro couples. Our country is so fucking hypocritical.

    IMHO ~
    * marriage is historically via religion defined to mean man and woman uniting.
    * There is no "right" and no "wrong" when it comes to expression of love, for love is god.
    * I can't understand why gays want to conform to a religiously indoctrinated stupidity..... marriage. They could form a "union of love", for example.
    * "top 3 reasons" smacks of a request for an ammunition supply to be used against gay unions and rights, so I abstain.
    * I've been privvy to cases where children adopted by gay couples, and the psycho-emotional trauma they go through is simply awful. But that may entirely be due to societal ant-gay prejudice. Only by observation over time will it become evidential one way or another whether or not a more open and tolerant society helps overcome the problems the kids of gay unions have, and I most strenuously object to the projection of bias into the future in anticipating what may or may not eventuate for such kids. All I know for certain right now is my heart was rent open when I heard one kid open up about it.
Possibly gays should accept that nature's intention was for children to be the product of hetero unions, and nature should not be altered.

Yes and as any Judeo-Christian doctrine it is usually twisted to meet the needs of the "righteous". Phooey.

Because they are not afforded family benefits such as medical insurance unless they are legally married. Why do they need family coverage? How about one half of the couple has to stay home and rear those children they aren't allowed to adopt. And yes, I know, most of the world has some form of socialized or state supplemented health plan. The US, among it's many ridiculous problems, does not. Of course, homosexuals are still practically hunted like animals here. So much so that we have to have laws specifically identifying "hate crimes" against gays, blacks, asians, jews, etc. Pity we don't hunt fundies here. Face it, we're a nation of idiots governed by morons.

blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda... for every one traumatized child you can produce I could probably produce 50 healthy, happy, productive, adults who were raised by 2 gay parents. Statistics mean exactly shit.

Possibly people who are loving, intelligent, educated, and economically solvent and who love chilcren should be afforded the option to have them.

For the record, I have a brother who is active in his cities gay community, he and his partner fit this description, and are raising a child that his partner fathered through artificial insemination with a lesbian friend. She and her partner are sharing custody with my brother and his partner. That's how you get around the stupid laws in Florida (where they live). The young man is 15, an honors student, a star athlete, and has a very cute girlfriend. In my experience he is the rule rather than the exception.

My church just voted unanimously to be a welcoming church to gays and lesbians. Every single person voted positive.

    Amen :)

the only thing that worries me about gays raising children, is that the kids would rebel by becoming nasty little fundamentalist Christians.

Yay for gays! Let'em be, people. Shit.

I love vagina. I guess you could say that I am a lesbian in a man's body. So what?

Live and let live for once.

From the Vedic perspective on the absolute nature of the soul...what's really wrong is that we think that we are our temporary bodies and minds and are of different races, religions, sexual orientations, etc.

From a more material point of view, it's not the best situation to be in, whether by choice or not...a lot of cards are stacked against gays in this world.

A lot of cards are stacked against the sincere Christians as well and the momentum is surely swinging more for the gays.

However, I dirrected the question specifically to Molly for a reason. But thanks for the insight : )

Homosexuality is no more "wrong" than heterosexuality. But I don't think morals are factored into the decision as much as they are professed, and I don't think it's a question of "wrong" or "right," but instead one of "am I ok with other people living like this?" That should be a yes for everyone.

    .

Studies have shown that children raised by Gay parents are every bit as developed and prepared for the world as children raised by straight parents.

Homosexuality is demonized as the sin above all other sins, which is a convenient way to look at it if you're straight. If you believe Gay ppl shouldn't raise children because their relationships are a sin or a sham, then how do you feel about divorcee's remarrying and having children. If you looked at divorce and the Bible as strictly as you looked at homosexuality, those children would be illegitimate.

People have 'suddenly' decided that gays should not raise children, God has not turned his back. Who do think has been helping raise your broods of little rug rats for all these past 30,000 years?

JesusDiedForU: A lot of cards are stacked against the sincere Christians as well

I haven't the faintest idea what that means. If the key word is christian, than you are playing that hackneyed christian martyr thing, which just isn't true in this day and age. If the key word is sincere. I couldn't agree more, in this world many are shamelessly espousing christian values which are nothing more than an excuse for bigotry and hate. How do you find sincere love, a love which is unconditional and not a slogan for bigotry? Sadly, things have not changed so very much since your lord walked the earth.

If Christ's forgiveness saved mankind from the wrath of God, I don't know who he was protecting.
Now, who's gunna save me from your wrath?

I think all people should have the option of putting their lifetime committemnt to another person in writing in some legal form, regardless of the gender of that person they want to spend their life with. People should all receive the same benefits of coupleship under law regardless of gender. I don't think it is any of my business which adult's are fucking eachother, I could really care less which gender they prefer to experience sexual intimacy with. In a country that is supposedly a "free" country what is it our business to legislate which conscenting adults can sleep together? Freedom means freedom, not the freedom to only do those things that don't gross me out...

As far as adoption...Are two dad's or two mom's worse than no parents at all? I don't think so. A child needs love, care, commitment, and compassion. The gender of the people that is coming from doesn't make a bit of difference.

    .

I only have one point for Gay Marriage and Adoption:

My religion does not ban Gay Marriage or Adoption.

All of the scientific evidence says that Being Gay is neither a choice nor a sickness.

    See: religious tolerance org

The American Psychological Association released a Statement on Homosexuality in 1994-JUL. Their first two paragraphs are:

By not allowing me to marry a man I am being denied my first amendment rights on the grounds of Freedom of Religion.

It ain't more complicated than that.

Your religion and belief may say it is a sin to eat pork or beef, but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be able to do it. Consider this: science has proven that eating pork and beef is worse for my health than loving another man.

    .

  20. I have nothing to say...I entered this thread with guns blazing and ready to defend my homosexual brothers and sisters. But my sentiments have already been shared. I think this thread is positive proof of attitudes changing for the better (and for the future) ;)
