i backcombed lightly around 2 months ago, then they kind of half fell out. so now ive got like 3inches of knottyness about an inch down from the root, and the rest is normal hair. when i see pics on here/elsewhere of people who backcombed and are at the same stage as me, they look very different to mine, i know everyones look different, but mine now look like im going natural/neglect method. im completely happy with my baby dreads, and how theyre maturing, i was just wondering what people are doing differently to me : )
What's your hair type like, how long's your hair? It also depends very much how much of a job you did with the backcombing. If you did them loosly it's not surprising that some of it fell out. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, in time they'll start to lock up more. Also everyone's dreads look different regardless of whether they used the same method and have been dreading for the same amount of time. I know it's difficult, but try not to compare your dreads with others, it's a bad idea, but a very difficult habit to break I still do it myself.... They'll get there in the end. Two months is nothing in terms of dreadlocks.... As long as you're happy that's the important thing.
Yeah my back-combing fell out, it'll lock properly soon enough. I'm trying to work out exactly what you mean by an inch down from the root, but my roots were quite long when I started and now they are tight to my head.
Mine did this til July. I got them backcombed in January. Trust me it's gonna take a while. I'm at 11 months and they've locked up very well. If you look at this picture You can see that they are dreaded an inch or so near the root and the rest is messy hair. (On this day, which was my birthday some old lady screamed at me saying and I quote "How the fuck can you go out looking like that you should be ashamed!!" ruined my birthday but it helps me remember how old they are in this photo) (Sorry had to edit link didnt work.) These are my dreads at 2.5 months old after being backcombed. Be patient and you'll get there. Just wash once a week and separate
Backcomb once and again, and again, and again, and again, and again until they stay put. Anyway it depends on the style and the patience. Some people believe in total natural neglected style, I do admire the patience and determination in that people. Some others (like myself) believe in work hard everyday on your dreads. Its up to you.
backcombing over and over again is not a good idea, the dreading is still done by just time and the natural way, backcombing is sort of just showing the way, having a bit of a headstart and basically some more control or however you wanna put it. but the point is, doing it over and over again kills the idea of backcombing, every time you redo it, basically you almost start over, ruining all the process that really makes dreads. people are trying too hard to make things like that faster and interfereing when it shouldnt be done, respect the process and enjoy the fruits of your patience...
