I heard, but haven't tested this theory personally, that if you chew gum while you chop an onion, then you won't cry.
Just cut it under running water. Problem solved. I cry enough as it is. I don't the help of some bully veggie
I actually never eat onions. I think they're disgusting. They're pretty much the only food I'm 'picky' about...choosing to eat vegan is a different story.
I used to chop 50lbs of onions a day and I found two things that worked for me. 1: hold a large kitchen match in your teeth 2: chop until your eyes begin to tear up then take a break in the back yard until eyes clear and resume chopping onions (joint during break optional but, recommended )
I don't like onions either. The taste/smell doesn't bother me, but I hate the consistency/texture. My mom eats whole onions like apples though.
I don't like the texture or taste and if someone is cooking them, my eyes buuurnnn. If diced onions sneak into my food, I spit it out as if it was a shard of glass..I can't stand onions.
How about onion powder? If a recipe calls for onions, I use onion powder and it doesn't bother me at all. I guess that wouldn't work for you though, since you don't like the taste.
Holy crap! I don't really like onions. I still use them and cook with them but they are usually sauted or something and i use a lot of onion powder and garlic powder.. I think out of all of my spices i go through those 2 the most. If i bite into a onion and i can taste it and i can't find them in my food i will not eat it. Potato salad for example. But if i can pick them out its fine.
cooked onions in a recipe are fine, just chop them under water or inside of some kind of shield (between you and them). i use green onions (scallions) instead of white, yellow or red, for the simple reason a whole union is more then i would usually use up by myself before it rots. (liver gives unions a wonderful flavor if you use not too much liver and lots of onions) also the tops of green unions adds greens, which i like in my soup.
Someone else chopping onions near me/in the same room is enough to make me cry. I always put them in the fridge, because cool onions make me cry less, and take small break while chopping them. Cooked onions add great flavour but I don't like to it them raw. The only exception is a little amount of raw onions in mixed salads.
