The general idea I'm seeming to notice amongst many of those who want to protest marajuana is, "Hey, let's smoke some weed, and then when the cops come, run". In other words "Hey, let's throw a typical party". I'm thinking you guys are missing the entire point. You're supposed to show that you refuse to be bullied, not that you are willing. You're supposed to show that you are dedicated. That right there somes up protests, proving dedication. As long as you are afraid of getting in trouble, they are winning. If the cops show up and everyone scatters, the protest is over. But if you resist (non-violently, of course) the protest is not only extended, but making a loud statement. Here's Ghandis list on Civil Disobedience: A civil resister (or satyagrahi) will harbour no anger. He will suffer the anger of the opponent. In so doing he will put up with assaults from the opponent, never retaliate; but he will not submit, out of fear of punishment or the like, to any order given in anger. When any person in authority seeks to arrest a civil resister, he will voluntarily submit to the arrest, and he will not resist the attachment or removal of his own property, if any, when it is sought to be confiscated by authorities. If a civil resister has any property in his possession as a trustee, he will refuse to surrender it, even though in defending it he might lose his life. He will, however, never retaliate. Retaliation includes swearing and cursing. Therefore a civil resister will never insult his opponent, and therefore also not take part in many of the newly coined cries which are contrary to the spirit of ahimsa. A civil resister will not salute the Union Flag, nor will he insult it or officials, English or Indian. In the course of the struggle if anyone insults an official or commits an assault upon him, a civil resister will protect such official or officials from the insult or attack even at the risk of his life. Whether you agree with what he did or not, he did have the power to create change (Arguably not the best, I'm still in between on that) . Now, I can agree with all of those except number 4. Never physically resist, but peacful resistance can be beneficial, such as lock-ons and going limp during arrest, as you're still accepting your arrest, just prolonging. Thats another thing. Stop insulting the cops. Don't be obedient, but don't mean. Remember that we are all one people, even cops. Being nice probably won't change anything, but you never know. If you don't treat him different, its always possible for him to realize you aren't that different. Sorry, for certain reasons I felt a need to ramble. But I'm sure this forum is used to that.
You know, getting a bunch of people to pull a Ghandi at once might just get enough media coverage for people to consider it, as long as the smokers get their views displayed instead of it being a major drug bust.
But if you just let them catch you your losing half the fun of telling everybody the stories of how you got away
^instead you get to tell them you were part of an effort that helped legalize marijuana. even better.
the thing is though, what's going to work then? In this day in age, if we resist in anyway, we'll be locked away and labeled crazy stoner hippies by the media and ultimately ignored. What will that solve?
I dont care if is ever legal. I smoke plenty of weed now to keep me satisfied. And besides when I got arrested it sucked. The car was cramped the handcuffs were pointy and the cops were......well their pretty dumb. They played good cop bad cop with us.
...in this day in age? Civil Disobedience has always resulted in being arrested and labeled. And if the media is playing us, we're obviously not being ignored. At first a movement isn't going to change opinions. No, at first you're just trying to show people that they can stick up for what they believe in. And these are the people who are unlikely to care how the movement is labeled, hell, the offensiveness might inspire them. But you get enough people protesting often enough, and you can't be ignored. Also, if you really want to cause this change and stop the destruction of innocent lives, realize that your stance doesn't just apply while at a protest. This isn't a "pick your battles" type of thing. If the topic is brought up, never submit. And realize, that will result in sacrifice, arguing with the wrong person can hurt you. But protest is when you realize that an issue affects more than just you. I'm not sure I understand your mentality.
It obviously sucked getting arrested, but really It's not going to stop me anyways, And if it does become legal I'll go out of business. Why do people freak out about pot being ilegal? Just smoke a joint and if the cops come leave. The only reason I didnt run the time I got caught was because we were fenced in.
Ah, so the reason you don't care is because you profit off of it. And maybe we freak because we don't want to live your life of running.
Yes that is why I dont care. It's not gonna change anything for me. And good. Because being chewed out of your face and running really dont go together that well lol.
