    so here's the deal.
    i'm 18 yrs old,
been sexually active for roughly three years
using no form of birth control except for condoms this whole time.
The problem is that i've had three miscarriages
and my boyfriend is really really scared of slipping up again.
my parents hate my boyfriend so once i moved out into his house
they offered to pay for birth control [only make sure i dont have HIS kid]

i'm trying to figure out the most convenient way to go about this birth control business.

i figure the shot because you don't have:

    1 an ugly patch,
    2 a pill to remember,
    3 a rubber ring inside your body,
    4 a sponge inside your body,:ack2:
    or
    5 a faulty condom.

the problems i have run into with the shot are:

1 significant weight gain- i'm super self concious anyway
2 i'm on zoloft- a side effect is DEPRESSION.

    if you have any advice,
    i'd sure like to know

I've never had a problem remembering the pill, and I've found that it helped my depression a bit. I've been on the pill for 6 years with no weight gain but in my boobs, which I didnt' mind :p

I did know a few people on the shot, both had very bad reactions to it. One bled all month for about 3 months and had to go off of it. The other was on it for years and then when she went off of it was bleeding so bad that she had to go to the hospital.

My friend uses the patch with great success, she suffers from depresson too and she finds that it works better for her then the pill or the shot, and the patches aren't very big and it's a great alternative if you have a hard time remembering to take a pill everyday.

I'm on the shot, have been for many many years, thus I'm very happy with it.
It is once every 3 months, your arm hurts for a day or so and then you forget about it. I did gain a little weight at the very beginning, but it was also very easy for me to drop it again. I would suggest exercising a little more or watching what you eat, but all in all, it works itself out. The shot is also recommended if you smoke.
Best of all, I haven't had a period in years!
I have taken Zoloft while being on the shot, and even though it didn't work out (turns out, I couldn't function without my anxiety) it had nothing to do with the birth control.

What I highly, highly suggest you do is talk to your health care provider. Tell her (or him) your worries and all. They will know what is best for you.

Also most ppl don't stick with their first choice, it is easily changed. Just be sure to use condoms while you're in transition.

    Good luck!!

If you have issues with depression, my advice is to stay away from the shot! I was on the shot when I was 17, already dealing with some depression, and it made it much worse. Then a friend died (my first experience with the death of a friend) and it was awful. The pain and depression was unbearable and I had to be hospitalized so I wouldn't hurt myself.

So I never recommend the shot, especially if you are already dealing with some depression. It can push you over the edge. And the worst part is, if you take the shot and hate the way it makes you feel, there is NOTHING you can do for 3 months until the shot wears off.

You'll get used to remembering to take your pill. It's not too hard.

Plan B is not, NOT an abortion pill. It is an "emergency contraceptive pill" meaning it is a powerful dose of the same hormones found in birth control (and our bodies naturally) that forbids the fertilized egg (if there is one) to attach itself. This is not an abortion!

I'm not trying to be a bitch, but our reproductive rights are rights are being attacked from all sides, and calling Plan B an abortion pill is only going to hurt us even more. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I fucking sick and tired of some old man choosing what happens to young womens' bodies, especially my own.

Have you ever wondered why no insurance covers birth control but many cover Viagra? Old fucking men who can't get it up write the laws.

Also, I would not base any decision on the possible side effects without knowing more. All medications have possible negative side effects, even things like antacids and head aches meds, you name it.

    Let's burn our bra's!!!

    I dislike feminazis...

However I agree whole-heartedly that women should have full choice what to do with their own bodies.

I've never met one of Mr. Robertson's feminazis, we are not lesbian baby haters waiting to destroy the world. He must be hiding them.

I believe all women are feminists (some more than others), but only those who act upon our feelings are seen as "nazis", when we are quiet and assume the passive role of not standing up for our selves and our rights then its okay to think you are better than society wants you to think you are.

In my eyes, the feminazi's are the ones that put down men to bring themselves up, which I think is weak.

Women are equal in my eyes, in a lot men's eyes, you don't have to put us down to make it more obvious
