The baby's due in less than two months, and I've started thinking about my birth control options. I don't have many.

I can't take any hormonal birth control forms because of a genetic hormonal imbalance I have been blessed with.

My family history includes every single woman (my mother, grandmother, great aunt, all female cousins, etc) having some form of feminine cancer (ovarian, uterine, or cervical). And I don't want to take the chance of doing something that might help develop a potential problem (So I have problems with the IUD, for myself).

So what's left for me? The diaphragm, brian wearing condoms, and a whole lot of praying?

    HELP!

diaphragm, sponges, spermicide, and the one where you keep track of your fertility cycles...

It's rather a poor set of choices if you don't react well to the hormonal birth control, I'm sorry hon

get a copy of TCOYF (taking charge of your fertility) by Toni Weschler, chart your cycles, recognize your fertile signs, and use condoms during the window of fertility. It is NOT natural family planning, it is fertility awareness method, and if used correctly, it is very very effective.

Ya know, it seems like it's been a few years since I saw a story about a male-birth-control pill that should be ready to hit the market in 2 years time...

Where the hell are they with that!!!

Some doctors and midwives fit cervical caps. They are pretty good, although you do have to put spermicide on the inside for best results. It is easier on your urethra than a diaphram, but a diaphram is easier to put in.

I might consider a copper IUD.

But I'm not finding much in the way of research done linking or disproving a link between feminine cancers and copper IUD usage.

AND I've a long history of very heavy periods, rought with cramps that leave me bed-ridden for the duration. They say not to use a copper IUD if you've got that history...

    So...what now?

I think you'd go best with a cervical cap. If you have a hormonal imbalance, fertility awareness might be pretty difficult to track. Although you can try it, ( plus using any barrier method, unless you feel you are tracking it right)

If you have your period every 26-32 days apart regularly you can use Cycle Beads they really work. Cyclebeads are a fertility awarness method but is really easy. Just make sure you and your partner know how to use and read the bead system so there is no confusion on safe and fertile days. Its really easy and good for avoiding or getting pregnant. No chemicals...all natural. I use this (with condoms) myself for over a year before I became pregant and will go back after the baby is born. Here is the website:

    www.cyclebeads.com

    I hope this is helpful.
    Peace,
    Clove

My mom did when she was 23.

    IUDs sound painful.

I don't know what to tell you. I've only used hormonal birth control....
