CLAIRE! What's wrong with you?! Back in the day that I ate beef, horseradish was my favourite condiment. Yum yum yum, spicy goodness Things that make me happy:
I can't remember ever having horseradish... is it like mustard? Gees I wish I was intelligent like you Ms Red *sigh*
S'not intelligence lady, it's a history of eating weird things... Horseradish, according to Wikipedia... Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana, syn. Cochlearia armoracia) is a perennial plant of the Brassicaceae family, which includes mustard and cabbages. The plant is probably native to southeastern Europe and western Asia, but is popular around the world today. It grows up to 1.5 metres (five feet) tall and is mainly cultivated for its large white, tapering root, although the leaves are also edible. Its root is used as a vegetable or condiment, and has at times been used as the bitter herbs in the Passover meal in some Jewish communities. Horseradish, sometimes blended with cream, is often served with roast or boiled beef or sausages, as well as smoked fish. Horseradish is also used in some prepared mustards. Also, much of what is styled wasabi is actually common horseradish dyed green.
Nothing like mustard. It has a very distinctive flavour, and it's certainly spicy, but it isn't hot in that you can put as much of it in your mouth at once as you like without running the risk of being in agony. It's also the best bit of the Seder. The boiled egg and saltwater is rather nasty but when you get to eat the Matzos and horseradish, that's fun!
you say its not hot, it depends how fresh it is, if you get strong stuff it feels like ya nose is gonna pop if you get too much on ya knife. its well nice though i reckon, that n mustard, you can get vegan horseradish too
