in the name of nothing in particular, these guys are fucking geniuses... sounds kinda like a mix between frank zappa, green day, and it has the wierdness of ween... and part jesus christ. yes, they are so messiac that when ever i recite the trinity, it goes "The Father, They Might Be Giants, and the Holy Spirit.". not infront of my uber catholic grandfolks though. they'd turn me inside out. but yeah, messiac. some of the stuff that they've done that some of you folks might have heard of: theme for malcolm in the middle theme for mighty morphing power rangers some stuff for austin powers: the spy who shagged me and they've had apperances in blues clues, courage the cowardly dog, and dexters labratory, among many other things. some of their more popular stuff is "particle man", they covered "Istanbul, not Constantinople"... yeah, all of you should get a concert boot leg if possible, i think they are into the whole free shows and stuff... edit: ok, well, i take back the greenday (the Spine was one of my first albums.. its a little pop-y), and partly ween... but frank zappa and jesus stays. and i guess they didnt do th MMPR theme, just a song in the movie... they're still awesome, and if anyone wants a cd, i'd be glad to send you one.
i start by saying.....have fun with they might be giants man.... ive heard a buncha their songs and i dont lik'em at all..... and saying that they're high enough in your book to replace them with god thats really strong for a band that isnt that good.... but yeah your opinion....
i was kidding about the god thing... and just because you dont like them doesnt mean they suck. yeah, and the "your opinion" thing, my reply is: yeah, no shit. sweet bus though... and ive got a hubcap like that hanging in my room too. what all is it (model and year)? looks like its a westy..
I like TMGB because the lyrics are intellectual. meaning they take alot of references to books, historical figures, and stories to make you think. I like how they don't come right out and tell you what they are singing about. Like the song "End of the tour". It's about a group of girls who leave a party and the driver falls alseep at the wheel and runs into another car. They driver and her passengers die at the scene and the driver of the other car blames himself for thier death (because he was tired and that they will no longer live as long as he has and experiance life like he has). A very sad song. But they have happier ones like "Metal detector" in this song they are comparing this old man who's on the beach looking for "burried treasure" to a mine detector from WW1 or WW2.
yes. i agree completely. they might be giants was one of the first bands that i ever got into. the lyrics are dead on... some very high art. it took me years to figure out some of the references in those songs. TMBG is intelligent music. i like the sound when they had a complete band... not just a drum machine. i've seen them live a couple of times, and their shows are so much fun. serious energy waves going on. a friend of mine used to say of TMBG, "man, it's motivational music!" ... yep my favorite albums are: "Lincoln" "Flood" "Apollo 18" "John Henry" "Factory Showroom" i think they hit their peak in the mid 90's. i don't like their recent stuff as much. but still a great band.
BUMP! I just discovered They Might Be Giants (took me long enough, right?) And I think we should talk more about them....anyone else as into them as I am (not to the point of making them a deity in my brain...)
I've heard a lot of their songs, and I like what I've heard. They know how to write pop music. I think my favorite song is "Doctor Worm." Heh, it's awesome.
yeah, they arent messiac.. just geniouses... Linell is the reason i'm playing accordion.. even though its only been a week... CHECK MY SHIT OUT!! www.myspace.com/theonekurkass sorry.. had to.
