At one time in our past, African-American men were deemed not qualified to fly military (or civil) aircraft.

It was thought that they lacked the intelligence and the abilities to fly aircraft, engage in warfare by air, and, also, to repair said aircraft.

How foolish, ignorant, and blatantly racist!

These brave and daring men risked their lives for a country which, largely, did not think them equal to white men.

The oft-forgotten Tuskegee Airmen are true and proud American heroes in every sense of the word; many of these brave men flew many more missions than their white counterparts.

Think of the resilience of these brave airmen as they not only battled the enemies of our country, but also, the many injustices of racism and prejudice.

    True American heroes, for certain!:)

    Trivia:

Nine hundred and thirty-two pilots graduated from the Tuskegee program.

Three hundred and fifty-five of these men served in active duty during WW2.

The imposing B-24 Liberator (my late uncle, a decorated WW2 Air Force vet) once flew one of these now-legendary aircraft.

These iconic aircraft also were part of the Tuskegee Airmen......

Most of the Tuskegee Airmen's history originated at this now-closed airfield.......

Just several days ago, former Tuskegee Airmen Herbert Thorpe (of Oneida County, NY) celebrated his 100th birthday.

God Bless You. Mr. Thorpe, and we THANK YOU for your resilient courage and dignity.....you are, indeed, a TRUE living American hero!:)
