I just got myself a theremin and its so cool, it the antennae kind as opposed to the kind of keyboardy thing. It sounds so sci-fi and ethereal, like something out of this world.

The Beach Boys Sweet Vibrations used a Theramin to get that SciFi sound.

I have been thinking about building one as a DIY project. It would make a cool Science Project for a High Schooler too.

Did you build it yourself or buy it prebuilt? I am unaware of anyone that currently sells a prebuilt manufactured Theramin.

    Do you have any photos?

yeah, i got a kit that provides all the parts and such and also a manual on how to construct it for 50 british pounds. thats pretty good, they cost quite a lot to buy pre-built in stores.

I have been able to get a similar sound on my radio. I used to have this old alarm clock radio and when put on lw or mw, between stations, I can create that weird sound with using my hand on and off the device. I have tried a Leon Theramin in Turnkey London. Not as easy as it seems, neither is using a Lazer Harp.

Just electromagnetic fields really... One field senses volume, the other senses pitch. There's some great vintage recordings of Thermin masters out there. I think the most famous is some lady doing a rendition of "Ave Maria".... it's out there somewhere....
