Why are all Yanks so obsessed with amster-fucking-dam?

It's an ugly city full of cocky cunts. The accent is horrible, and so are the people who live there.

Is it just the weed, and the hookers??? You can also get that in other city's.

i dont get why so many dutchees hate amsterdam.
its not the nicest place in netherlands, but its not so bad as far as capital cities go (i dont think its actually the capital is it...) but den haag is by far the most revolting place ive ever been in holland, maybe even in the world.

 

Amsterdam is our Capital, but the government is in den Haag.

What was so bad about den Haag (the Hague) then?

The Tram System - The Canals - The Massive Amount of Coffeeshops - The Various RLD's & Prives - The Parks - The Museums - The Music Scene - The History - The People

Yeah, you can get weed and hookers in other cities but not in the abundance that they're available in A'Dam, along with everything else the great city has to offer.

While I do like other cities in the Netherlands for what they uniquely offer, it's easy to see why most "Yanks" focus on A'Dam more than anywhere else.

A'dam is our capital, however, the Den Haag is where the government and all is. I hate Den Haag, my parents says it used to have some charm, but it seriously lost it. Love Amsterdam though. Places like Delft, Deventer, Utrecht, Leiden and others are nice too. But foreign people hardly ever go there, because they think you can only get stoned in Amsterdam and its the only place to see here.

Well said and personally i love Delft - I've been a few times and will be back there in May!

I've been to Volendam and Haarlem as well and love both towns as well

fedor....why you so obsessed with the "yanks" being obsessed with Amsterdam. We don't have any city such as your lovely capital. I've have never run into rude locals in my stays. We traveling Americans know there is much more to Holland but when your on such short stays or are heading out to other parts of Europe as the majority do, they focus on Amsterdam. And why not. I'll be there for Queens Day, it will be this yanks 5th visit!! dutch rock baby!! Mike (from the former dutch colony of new amsterdam)

Ok, it is an inbreeding town, and also has that horrible "Noord-Hollandse accent" but at least it shows something about our Dutch history and tradition.

Amsterdam is nothing more than a fake tourist city.

How far is Deventer from amsterdam? can you get there by train? or should I say is it easy to get there if i dont have a car?

No Myrtje, I work in Connecticut but I'm from NY. Live right down the highway from Amsterdam, New York. A small city in upstate new york. I think about your city every time I pass that exit sign. We even have a Rotterdam and other small citys and towns named after settlers from your cities. A lot of dutch influence in New York and parts of Pennslyvania.

amsterdam has charm, fake tourist city or not.

 

I think its about 75 km., and you can basically get anywhere by train. to deventer is amsterdam - amersfoort - deventer i think. takes about an hour and a half. i dont live there though, so i dont know the details.

 

Haha cool. I knew that Brooklyn comes from Breukelen and that Manhattan used to belong to Ansje Jansen, but i didnt know you actually had a place called Amsterdam and Rotterdam and so on.
