let's just say.... if i was starving i would steal food from walmart. if i could not afford neccasities... i would steal from walmart. i would NEVER steal from a person.
well, stealing from a person would be wrong IMO because usually the things that they have... they work hard to have. walmart... the people that own it, that are WAY up there.. are greedy and do not work hard.
i really dont think that i would steal from anyone, i am so honest that i give money back if they give me too much change or ask if the total is correct if i dont think it is enough. now that i read over what i have just written, i have to say, if my kids didnt have food i might be able to steal
In certain ways if you think about it, stealing from a corporation is stealing from an individual. Say there is a massive amount of theft at a particular walmart store that results in having to shut down because of bancrupcy. This means a bunch of people have lost their jobs, so essentially your stealing has contributed to them losing their jobs. Now on a less extreme scale - everything that you steal reduces the profit for some company somewhere, whether it be the place that you have stole from our their insurance company. The less profitable a company is, the less likely they are to return some of their earnings to their employees in terms of raises, bonuses, benefits etc. Now it does seem that person to person theft is more wrong than stealing from a corporation. However the reality is that person to corporation theft is the equally as bad. The only difference is that you are stealing a little bit from many people as opposed to a lot from one person.
the fact is though that places like walmart always talk about theft raising their prices... give me a break!!!! even with the theft that im sure they get, they can afford to keep their prices low AND pay their employees more. im not saying theft is ever RIGHT. but the question he asked (OPer), reminded me of that typical "would you steal the lifesaving med. for your wife question?" if it was for survival, i WOULD.
that said, if it ever happened to me... as i dont need anymore trouble, i would go to soup kitchens and go to stores like walmart and explain my situation and ask if there is food that they usually throw out at the end of the day that i could have.
I wouldn't steal from a big corporation on purpose any more than from an individual. And if I see I get too much change or they forget to ring something up while I'm still there, I point it out... but when I lived in Dallas and once got a really big turkey for the price of one lb instead of the whole turkey, and only noticed when we came home, I didn't drive back I would go back to a friend if they made an error like that, but not to a major chain store... so yes I do feel a little different and less ethical about a large corporation, but not nearly so much I'd actively go steal from them!
we used to go to the hot foods counter and get lb. pags of chicken fingers and grab a few gourmet dippin sauces then grab drinks and jsut walk out.
Wow! Looks like you read alot into my post that I wasn't even hinting at. (Or did I get drunk one night and join some nefarious organization called the "you folks"?) What I'm saying: Suppose you're homeless and wake up one morning to find one of the other homeless people has stolen your shoes. you can: A: Go find another homeless person who's weaker than you and take his shoes B: go to Walmart and shoplift a pair. Not saying there aren't other options. Just saying between the two I think B is the lesser of the two evils. Also think most people who shoplift aeren't doing it out of need so much as greed or just for the thrill. Nobody shoplifts a TV out of "need". anyway I don't consider what I said a "mind set". I thiink it's a pretty accurate observation. Also don't consider stealing someones retirement fund "effecting them a little". I think you have to take circumstances into considerration. Otherwise you wind up with things like the Three strikes law we have here in california where someone can wind up doing a life sentence for stealing a pack of gum.
Haha as you did I my friend. I do understand what you are saying when it does seem more harsh when one person loses everything as opposed to many losing a little. If put in a situation to steal, I probably would steal from a corporation over an individual myself - I just despise stealing no matter what the reason or who its from whether it be an individual or a corporation.
btw dhs... if you HAD to have bread for your kids.. would you think it was wrong to do it or not to do it?
