A survey of 1,675 food service workers between Oct. 20 and Nov. 10 from five states found that not only are servers receiving piss-poor tips, they're also being harassed for enforcing social distancing and mask-wearing.
Food service workers endure “maskual harassment,” a disgusting new phenomenon in which restaurant-goers request the server remove their mask to gauge how much they should be tipped — which, if they comply, puts them at an increased risk of contracting the virus.The study, titled “Take off your mask so I know how much to tip you,” found that more than 80% of food industry workers have seen a decline in tips, while 40% report an increase sexual harassment from customers.

I can't help but wonder how many are wearing MAGA hats.

This is so disgusting. It's not just harassment but also discrimination if you are tipping someone based on what they look like instead of the service they have provided. I think we really should do away with the tipping culture for service professionals and just give them a decent wage instead, like so many other countries do. The stated price of your meal might be a bit higher but no more so than if you added a decent tip anyway. For many years my family depended on tips to make ends meet (my husband drove a cab) so we have always tipped 30-35% no matter how the service was. Here is the way I look at it, if the service was good, they should be making good money anyway and if the service was bad I would hope that the server might feel a bit guilty for it and do better next time. Either way, it is usually remembered and the next time we go to that restaurant the wait staff usually recognize us and provide excellent service.

 

I can't help but think the brestaurant chain Hooters of America are to blame for the visual beauty standard that the male society bestows on female wait staff across the country.

Hooters has always maintained the highest gold standard of discrimination and sexual harassment since it's grand opening April 1st 1983.

Female employees are required to sign that they "acknowledge and affirm" the following:

My job duties require I wear the designated Hooters Girl uniform.
My job duties require that I interact with and entertain the customers.
The Hooters concept is based on female sex appeal and the work environment is one in which joking and entertaining conversations (flirting) are commonplace.

Even with a mask on these waitresses are bringing in phenomenal tips, I wonder why?


For the record, I haven't eaten at a Hooters in over 2 decades. The food wasn't good at all at my locations here in Wisconsin.

I solely base my tips on service, never appearance.

 

Compared to like The Holocaust, I dont know if stingy tipping comes close to "The worst people imagineable"
