The World's End Movie Blurb by Shale August 23, 2013 WOW! According to the aggregate reviews on Rottentomatoes 92% of critics liked this movie, as well as 77% of audiences. If you get tired of hearing me say how much I enjoy movies that everyone else roundly trashes, then mark this moment because I was not too impressed with this one. As with many of my blurbs I can't always articulate exactly why, but I found this one slow, dragging sometimes, silly and ... IDK - the movie and I just didn't connect. I could have had too high expectations that weren't met and lost objectivity somewhere. I had just watched the 2011 movie Paul, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It is one of my favorite movies and quite funny, fast paced, with good lines and a coherent story. Plus you just love the characters in that movie and how they play off each other. I guess I just didn't care for Gary King (Simon Pegg) the lead character who never grew past high school when he and his buds attempted the pub crawl in their home town of Newton Haven. They failed to reach the 12th pub, The World's End back then so Gary is trying to get the guys back together to make another go of it. Everyone except Gary has grown up, got good jobs and families, with the usual bumps and bad spots and boredom. Gary finally convinces all of his old chums, Andrew (Nick Frost), Oliver (Martin Freeman) Steven (Paddy Considine) and Peter (Eddie Marsan) to accompany him on the new quest to complete the Pub Crawl. Pub Crawlers Still Standing Gary has their route laid out and tho the others are not as enthusiastic as their adolescent minded, alcoholic friend, after they progress to several of the pubs, having a pint at each, the mood gets more congenial. Map the Crawl Strangely, for being the hell-raiser kids when they left this small town, no one seems to remember them as they go to familiar pubs on the route. At this point they are mostly just trying to put up with Gary while reliving some moments of their youth best forgotten. Pub Crawlers at the Bar They have been joined by Oliver's sister Sam (Rosamund Pike), whom Gary wants to connect with in the pub toilet like they did as teens and gets a rude awakening. Pub Crawlers & Sister/GF Sam Several pubs in, Gary is in the loo and encounters a teen that he gets into a fight with and this is where he knocks the kids head off - really, revealing blue fluid and obvious robotic works. From here the guys maintain their original plan to continue the pub crawl to avoid suspicion and try to get out of town. There are chases and brawls and separations of friends. There is an explanation of how the town came to be overrun by robot ppl, which I was not too thrilled with or the resolution to the problem. So, there you have it. 92% of movie critics say you should like this movie.
